2019 Newsletter April.Pub 1 Alfred County Herald April 2019 Chairman’s Chatter. Chairman’s chirp Well the third rally of 2019 is done and dusted, wow how time flies. The good news is that we have the rest of the year still to enjoy our caravanning rallies. We eventually managed to arrange a suit- able date and time and we travelled up in convoy to Mary Neethling’s farm in Oribi Gorge to visit and wish her a belated 90th birthday. She is unfortunately no longer rallying, sold her caravan and bakkie and is now sporting a zippy new car. Thanks to the committee as well as Marian, Siep, Foxy https://www.awardrv.com.au/ and Ann for also joining us. We had a delightful morning, and all admired her beautiful garden with many varieties of Cycads and other exotic plants. Some of the ladies were fortunate enough to be given some plants to take home for their gardens. On behalf of all the members I would once again like to wish her all the very best and thank her for the many years of friendship. We are going to miss her immensely and invite her to visit us at any rally for a cup of tea and a chat. Our next rally is the Pedal Car rally at Karridene, so far, we have had 7 confirmed bookings. For those who may still want to at- tend please contact Glenda urgently. Sunshine Coast region are the hosts and they go to a lot of trouble and effort to make it a fun filled weekend so let’s reciprocate and support them. That’s all folks, hopefully see you all at Karridene. The Mittenwald rally was a huge success, not only the festive atmosphere, but the tranquillity, vast areas of grass and lots of shade. When we arrived there was a little confusion as where the main gate was, but sorted out quickly. It was also that part of the season where wild fig trees dropped small little figs fairly regularly. Friday was the official start of the rally and by the afternoon there were seven vans park in close proximity to each other. The Marshalls were Johan and Breggie. They went out of their way to make everybody feel wel- come by delivering the weekend program by hand and to fit in a “little kuiertjie” with each arriving to set up camp. Johan and Breggie had arranged home made hamburgers for Friday evening. When looking at the que it was evident that the campers were hungry and eager to taste the ham- mies. Once the eating started, a quietness descended on the group and according to facial expressions, it seems that it was thoroughly enjoyed. I must give a very special recognition to Breggie who applied her secret recipe in preparing the patties—well done! Louis was caught helping himself with the “brandoffers” left in the skottel. Siep was checking up on whether he should participate or not. Re- gardless of his initial indecision he could not resist keeping his hand away from the skottel. If this was Friday, the question is how the Saturday would be like. The Saturday started of with the sun shining very nicely. A good day for going to the beach. The Foxcrofts, Neil Brooker, Siep van Gaelen and the von Backstroms went to Port Edward beach during the morning where they really enjoyed the surf. In the afternoon we had the Chairman’s tea without tea, there was load shed- ding. Never the less it did not stop us to play “matches”. They were shown “match” puzzles upon which they had to solve a problem. Louis Mante emerged as the person who were able to think out of the box—well done Louis. Saturday evening was reserved for our communal braai. The resort did not have proper braai facilities which meant another plan had to be made. There is a say- ing that a boer can make a plan, however, campers have a plan. We then used our own braaiers. The only problem that occurred was out of our control—it start- ed to rain, we all rushed for our umbrellas. This did not stop us to have a very nice braai. Sunday was time for a church service led by Anne Foxcroft—thanks Anne!!. At twelve it was time for our friendlies. Denise Wortmann was the fines mistress and what joy did she have in issuing fines. The fines collector was her husband Mike. The person who the wooden spoon was awarded to was Albert Firma- ni. Well done Albert, you are a worthy carrier of this award. Breggie was the winner of Imali and with this the activities Mittenwald rally came to an end. With thanks to all who participated in the rally. Alfred County Herald 2 3 ALFRED COUNTY ACHIEVEMENTS One of our members achieved a well deserved milestone in her life. Mary Neethling became 90 years old and what a graceful person she is. To commemorate this event, the committee and some members of Alfred County went out to her place in Oribi Gorge. It was such a privilege to be with her. We were treated with beautiful bird- life, a swallow feeding its small. Some of our ladies also took a walk through Mary’s garden with beautiful plants to be taken with Younger members. The boys of Gerhard and Jackie Steyn are excelling at school as well as in post matric studying. It is a privilege for us to report on their achievements are as follows: Rudi He is playing for the 3rd year 1st team Cricket and rugby. He is also enjoying club rugby – SC Warriors. Jay Dee Currently studying Hotel Management in Durban. It is so nice to see how proud parents supports their children in their living of life. Well done guys!!! Please keep us up to date with your achievements. Alfred County Herald 3 4 NB!!!!! Alfred County members. Included below is an e-mail from René Stroebel on the Pedal Car event. You are friendly requested to really con- sider attending this event. If interested, on page 5 you are reminded to contact Glenda Booker on this important event on our rally calendar. From: Rene Stroebel [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2019 1:44 PM To: All Natal - CCSA; Colin & Meg Chaplin; Stephan Spieker; [email protected]; President CCSA; natalpro- vincial@caravanclubsa. org. za Subject: PEDAL CARS 2019 FOR DISTRIBUTION TO ALL YOUR MEMBERS PLEASE ...... Good Day Everyone, The numbers of attendance for Pedal Cars have over the years dwindled and yet again this year it started off slow and was very low yesterday morning. A number of intentions has since come in and we are to date on 83. Besides Rally Natal, Pedal Cars is the only event that takes place that should make us as a Province proud of what we have achieved with it over many years. There are no other Rally like this in the CCSA and although Goefy Games of the Northern Provinces has a similar to our Rally Natal it does not come close to the Pedal Cars in my opinion. The amount of work that goes into organising this rally is no less if there are lessor members attending, and I wish to plead with all those that have not yet responded, or has declined to come, to re-think their choice and join Pedal Cars this year. The work that Sunshine Coast Members put in is phenomenal. I am aware that the high cost for travelling for some Regions like North Coast, Midlands and Alfred County could have an impact on attendance, but Regions in and around Durban do not have distance as an issue and hence my plight for them to attend. I wish to request that Committees make an effort to try and get members to send in there intentions. The costs are low and even those single members that are camping have now got a reduced rate compared to the families. We are standing on 83 confirmed members attending the rally at this stage : Alfred County (7) Highway (8) Midlands (21) Natal (20) Nomads (3) North Coast (15) Sunshine Coast (11) Sunshine Coast has confirmed that they will take more intention until1 April which is the final date of fees to be paid over.
