In game two against Holy Cross he pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save and in the series fi nale retired the only two hitters he faced to earn his second win. At Pacifi c he recorded his fourth save of the season pitching 1.1 scoreless innings. His fi fth save came at UC Davis when he retired the side in the bottom of the ninth which included two strikeouts. Save number six came in the Pack’s fi rst MW victory, a 3-2 win over Air Force. His seventh save came in the 3-2 victory at UNM when he pitched a scoreless ninth but had to work out of a jam and struck out the fi nal batter with the bases loaded. At UNLV he earned saves in both Nevada wins. Three times Fain has blown saves at Utah Valley and versus New Mexico, one at home and one on the road.

SHIPLEY K’S: Junior Braden Shipley is second the MW and 25th nationally with 76 strikeouts. In MW play Shipley is second with 43 strikeouts. Three times this season Shipley has struck out 10 in a game. Shipley’s lowest total of the season came at Air Force when he had one. Shipley struck out 10 in eight innings at home versus Northern Illinois to earn his fi rst win of the season. His second 10 strikeout outing was in a no decision in his start at Utah Valley pitching 6.2 innings and the third was 10 in a home loss to UNM. His career-high of 12 strikeouts came last season at Hawai`i.

JAMESON REACHES 300 INNINGS: Senior Tom Jameson surpassed 300 career innings pitched at Nevada in his last start at Air Force and his current 304.2 ranks fourth in school history. Mateo Miramontes (2001-03) in third with 311.1 Jameson won the 20th game of his career in a 5-4 victory at UNLV which moved him into a tie with Kody Kosman (1992-93) and Matt Rainer (1998-00) for eighth on Nevada’s career victories list. Next on the list is John Patton (1991-94) and Kevin Lake (1993-94) who have 21 each. In 56 career games his record is 20-15 with a 4.19 ERA. Twice his freshman year he earned saves. He had made 38 consecutive starts until working out of the bullpen in the Holy Cross series. Jameson tossed two innings against HC and allowed three runs on fi ve hits. He returned to the rotation the next weekend starting the fi rst game of the Utah Valley series.

4 Jameson’s 38 consecutive starts was a combination of two starts this season and 15 in each of the previous two years. As a freshman he made nine starts which included the fi nal six games of the season.

ROWE A THIEF: Senior center fi elder Jamison Rowe is third in the MW with 14 stolen bases and has swiped 14-of-16 this year. In MW play his seven steals is tied for fi rst. Rowe was a perfect 10-for-10 stealing bases until getting caught on close play at second base in the series fi nale against Fresno State on Mar. 30. Rowe was also caught in the fi nal game of the series at SDSU. The 14 steals is a career-high for the speedy outfi elder. His previous high was fi ve his sophomore year and in his fi rst three years at Nevada totaled 12 in 16 attempts. Currently he is 26-for- 32 in the Silver & Blue.

TOUGH LUCK SHIP: Junior pitcher Braden Shipley is 6-2 on the season but twice left games in the late innings with the Pack leading only to earn no decisions. At Utah Valley, Shipley left with Nevada on top 5-4 after 6.2 innings on the mound. UVU scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to win 6-5. At New Mexico he pitched seven innings and left with the Pack leading 8-3. The Lobos scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the game 9-8. At SDSU he tossed his fi rst complete game of the season and third of his career but was tagged with the loss allowing two runs on just three hits. Nevada is just 6-5 when Shipley starts on the mound.

KLEIN PASSES 100: Senior outfi elder Brooks Klein played in his 100th game in the Silver & Blue at Air Forces on Sunday and 101 on Tues- day versus Sacramento State. In two season at Nevada Klein has played in all 101 games and started 99. Klein had has his streak of 63 consecutive starts come to an end at Utah Valley when he did not get the start on March 8. Klein did pinch hit in the game and popped up to left fi eld. The pinch hit appearance kept alive his streak of playing in every game in his two seasons at Ne- vada. Another fi rst in the UVU series was his fi rst start other than in the outfi eld earning the nod at designated hitter and he went 3-for-4 with a run scored.

NEVADA PICKED THIRD: Nevada will be competing in the Mountain West for the fi rst time in 2013 after 12 seasons in the Western Ath- letic Conference. In the preseason MW Coaches Poll the Wolf Pack was picked third behind New Mexico and San Diego State.

SHIPLEY PRESEASON MW SELECTION: Junior right-hander Braden Shipley was selected to the preseason MW Coaches team. Shipley, the 2012 WAC Pitcher of the Year, went 9-4 with 2.20 ERA in 98.1 innings on the mound his sophomore year. He struck out 88 and walked 40.

MEYER NAMED MW MAR. 11-17 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Nevada fi rst baseman Kewby Meyer earned Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week honors for games played from March 11-17, 2013. It is the fi rst MW recognition for Meyer. Meyer, a sophomore from Waipahu, Hawaii, hit .400 (6-of-15) for the week as the Wolf Pack went 3-1, including a 2-1 series win against Air Force to start MW play. Meyer started the week with a 2-of-4 performance in an 11-10 road win at UC Davis. He scored two runs, drove in two runs and was walked once. In Nevada’s 3-2 win over Air Force in its fi rst-ever MW Conference game, Meyer hit a sacrifi ce fl y to get the Wolf Pack’s fi rst run across the plate in the fi rst inning. He hit 3-of-4, including two doubles, with a run scored and two RBI in Saturday’s 6-1 win over the Falcons. In Sunday’s 7-3 loss to the Academy, Meyer was 1-of-5 from the plate. For the week, Meyer, a three-hole hitter, scored three runs, batted in fi ve runs and hit two doubles. He was walked twice. Defensively, Meyer recorded 32 putouts and two assists from his fi rst base position.

BYLER NAMED FEB. 25-MAR. 4 MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK: COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nevada third baseman Austin Byler earned Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week honors for games played from Feb. 25-March 4, 2013. It is the fi rst MW for Byler and a Nevada base- ball player. Byler, a sophomore from Peoria, Ariz., hit .615 (8-of-13) for the week as the Wolf Pack went 3-1, including a series win against Holy Cross. Byler came off the bench in Tuesday’s 4-1 loss at Sacramento State before starting against the Crusaders on Saturday. He delivered game-win- ning hits twice in the Holy Cross series. In Game One of Saturday’s doubleheader, Byler was 3-of-3 with three RBI, a run scored and two doubles in the 8-1 victory. His three-run homer in the eighth inning of Game Two was the game-winner (12-10) for the doubleheader sweep. Byler fi n- ished Game Two hitting 4-of-5 with nine RBI, three home runs, a double and three runs score. In the series fi nale, Byler provided a game-winning bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to seal the 7-6 victory. It was his only hit of the game after being walked twice. He fi nished the week with a slugging percentage of 1.538 and on-base percentage of .706.

NEVADA FALLS TO : The University of Nevada baseball team scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning but dropped an 11-6 exhibition game to the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affi liate of the on Tuesday night at Aces Ballpark. The Wolf Pack and Aces were meeting for the fourth consecutive year. The Pack won 7-3 last year while the Aces have won the other three contests. The game is a fundraiser for Nevada’s Dugout Club and the Aces donated $15,000 for the fourth year in a row. The Aces led 11-0 before the Pack scored six times in the top of the ninth inning. Third baseman Bryce Barger singled and scored on Joe Setum’s RBI single to get the Pack on the scoreboard. Ryan Teel had an RBI double, Brett Jones delivered an RBI single, in his second at bat of the 5 inning Barger drove in a run with a single and Ray McIntire’s single scored the fi nal two runs of the inning. Center fi elder Jamison Rowe had Nevada’s fi rst hit of the game and also doubled in the game. Barger collected two hits in the ninth. Junior Sara Parsons, a member of the Wolf Pack softball team played center fi eld in the bottom of the eighth inning. Each year a member of the Nevada softball team has joined the Pack baseball team in the annual exhibition game.

POWERS EARNS 900TH VICTORY: Nevada’s 10-5 victory over San Francisco on April 17, 2012 was the 900th for Wolf Pack head coach Gary Powers. All of Powers now 934 wins have come in his 31 seasons directing the Nevada baseball program. He is the longest tenured coach in school history.
