She is Cindi Azzouz, 35, who owns the Pizzarama at 9639 Fairfax Blvd. She was arrested at her restaurant, Dec. 17, 2010, after City of Fairfax Police accused her of failing to pay nearly $26,000 in city meals tax collections. According to authori- ties, she owes meals taxes collected at her business between Dec. 12, 2006 and June 28, 2010. Azzouz was initially charged with five felony counts of embezzlement. Each charge represented a six-month pe- riod during which she hadn’t remitted the meals taxes. While executing a search warrant at Pizzarama on Nov. 5, 2010, police seized $4,000 in cash, which will revert to the city. Actually, the Criminal Investigations Division began in- vestigating on June 28, 2010 following a complaint from the City of Fairfax treasurer that, despite repeated notices from the city, Azzouz had made only sporadic payments of the city meals tax her restaurant was required to collect.
