PRESIDENTS REPORT
It is with pleasure that I present to you this annual report covering another wonderful season of cricket in our Council area.
Thank you to everyone who has made a contribution to this Annual Report. Whilst much of the information contained herein can be found if you look hard enough across the internet, nowhere is it all compiled together as a record of our season.
With senior inter-council matches again falling by the wayside in favour of the Western Premier League competition, it was again only junior teams that were selected to represent our Council. Our under 16 team performed the best in the junior inter-council competitions, winning 3 and having their other match washed out. I won’t go into too much more detail as further information can be found later in this Annual Report.
We again entered teams in the Western Junior Carnivals held in Orange in January. Both teams played some good cricket, with our players gaining valuable experience. Our Under 15s won all 4 matches, but narrowly missed the final on percentages. The Under 13s won 3 of their 4 matches.
In senior cricket, the Regional Plan B T20 Bash changed from its previous knockout format to the super weekend format this season. Rain over the planned weekend though meant that the Central West Wranglers, which is selected from players from the Mitchell Council area, didn’t get to play any matches at all in this competition. It was a successful season for our Assocations in Western Zone competitons. Bathurst kept their name on the Western Premier League trophy, with a tie in the Final at Dubbo. Blue Mountains flew the flag in the new Zone Knockout, defeating Narromine in the final.
Matt Stephen, Josh Toole and Jackson Coote all gained selection in the Western Zone opens team which played in the northern pool at Inverell this season.
At the time of writing this report, the future of the current structure of Council’s within Western Zone is under review. Whilst Mitchell Cricket Council remains strong in administration and volunteer numbers, that same can not be said for Lachlan and Macquarie Valley. Discussions among the three Council’s are in their infancy but a reduction in the number of Council’s to two or even zero is a distinct possibility. There is much still to discuss but I expect we will see significant movement on this front over the next 12 months.
What wonderful news recently with the Orange Junior Association being awarded the Cricket Australia Association of the Year. What a fantastic achievement and a great reward for those involved.
While speaking of the work that volunteers do for our game, it would be remiss of me not to thank all volunteers within our area for the work that do to make sure cricket continues to be played right across our region. Love your work!
Last but not least, congratulations to the winners of our competitions for this season; Bathurst (Presidents Cup), Bathurst (T20 Cup), Orange (Colts), Bathurst (under 16s), Bathurst (Under 14s) and Orange (Under 12s).
Mark Frecklington President

Mitchell Cricket Council Annual Report 2017-18
Report 13 boys represented Mitchell in their 3 games of the 2017/18 season:
Gus Cornish (captain) - Orange, Dan Hunter (wk) - Orange, Tom Seldon - Blue Mountains, Eli Morris - Lithgow, Jacob Lamb - Bathurst, Liam Deegan - Bathurst, Riley Hoad - Bathurst, Blayde Burke - Bathurst, Angus Tremain - Orange, Ned McCarney - Mudgee, Jeron Sijo - Orange, D’Arcy Hamling - Orange, Reuben Newton – Bathurst.
Unfortunately the team went without a win, however two of the three games were reasonably close contests. Overall it was our batting that let us down, 115 was our highest total from 40 overs. A combination of getting bogged down early and poor shot selection contributed to these low scores. Increasing the ability to dispatch the loose ball to the boundary and to rotate the strike off the front foot are two skills that should be a focus for the U12 group moving into next season. Fortunately the team is young and many players are eligible again and will have learnt and improved greatly from their experience this year.
Bowling wise the team did very well. We had excellent options with pace and spin. Our catching however often let us down and didn’t back up the quality bowling that was being produced.
I would like to praise and thank all the boys involved in the season on their attitude and spirit representing Mitchell. They fought to the wire every match, and gave it 100% regardless of the game situation. They picked each other up if catches went down, or when team mates were dismissed and kept fighting to the very last ball. They listened well and played with energy and enthusiasm. These qualities are paramount and will set them up for future success.
Jo Hunter

Report January 2018 saw Mitchell Cricket Council Under 15s participate in the Western NSW Junior Cricket Carnival held annually in Orange year on year. This year saw the carnival share the same dates as the U16’s Bradman Cup which potentially impacted player availability and selection. Ultimately, due to the player depth in Mitchell Cricket Council in this age group the impact was minimal with the selected MCC team a blend of both younger players being 14 years through to the older 15- year age group. This allowed us to prepare the younger players in readiness for the U16’s WCZ competition in the latter half of 2018 and going into 2019 as well as expose both to a deeper pool of more skilled representative players from other NSW Metro and Country Zones as well as New Zealand.
MCC U15’s started on Day 1 of the carnival against a somewhat older Wakatipu High School Side at JB4. After winning the toss and batting MCC posted 8/159 with a solid performance from Will Hutchison (42no), supported ably by Hugh Middleton (22) and Jim Hale (25). The guys followed this up with a great bowling effort bowling Wakatipu HS out for 145 in 38 overs. Notable performances were once again Will Hutchison 3/9 (7 overs), Oscar Mahon 2/6 (5 overs), Charlie Harris 1/9 (3 overs) and Hugh McIntyre 3/18 (9 overs).
Day 2 saw us play St George’s U15’s representative side at the newly renovated Riawena Oval. After winning the toss we elected to bat as we were looking to take advantage of the newly prepped wicket and were conscious of the pitch deteriorating as the day progressed. Working hard throughout the innings MCC U15’s posted 134 (44 overs) which we felt was enough to defend if we bowled the right lines and were patient. Our strength was in our bowling and fielding and the guys
28
Mitchell Cricket Council Annual Report 2017-18 didn’t disappoint bowling St George out for 97 (44 overs). A great result but unknown to us at the time this was to impact our standing at the back end of the carnival given the points structure and the way this was calculated. Wickets were shared evenly around with Will Hutchison once again the pick with 3/21 (7 overs) backed up by Hugh Middleton 2/15 (8.2 overs), Harry McGregor 2/8 (6 overs).
Day 3 saw us match up against Western Sydney Stars at Country Club. This team made up of a selection of representative players from around the North West Sydney, Hills District and Parramatta. After doing some calculations overnight and based on the previous days result(s) we knew we had to win decisively if we were to finish in the top two or three at worst. Western Sydney won the toss and batted. We built pressure early with some brilliant ground fielding and catching thereby limiting Western Sydney to just 67. Of note, was Hugh Middleton’s bowling spell of 5/18 (off 7 overs) which included a hat-trick. At bat MCC scored the desired runs in 18 overs losing just the two wickets. This was the result we were looking for to put us back on track for a top two place pending other results.
With all the results in and having won all three matches to date Day 4 saw us play for a place in the top 2 or 3 against the older Orange Invitational XI. After a late change by the organisers, the fixture was reallocated the Jack Brabham 2 ground which was quite worn being heavily utilised throughout the week and the week previous. With that in mind and after winning the toss we once again elected to bat to gain best use of the wicket. Having set ODJCA Invitational XI 153 (49 overs) the MCC U15 boys closed out the match quickly with a clinical bowling and fielding effort bowling out Orange for just 50.
That result left the Mitchell equal first on points for the carnival having won all four matches only to be relegated to second overall based on quotient calculations. This was a great result for a great team of boys with a developing level of skill and experience. All worked hard all week collectively demonstrating maturity, resilience and composure beyond their years.

Mitchell Cricket Council Annual Report 2017-18
Report I was so pleased to be asked to be involved in one of the junior teams this year and we were able to put on a good show winning three of our four games in the U13 Western NSW carnival. Finishing in 5th position of the 16 teams. This was the first chance for these boys to experience a carnival format with a game, day after day, and on a different pitch/oval as well.
Seeing these cricketers enjoy each other’s company and play together like they had known each other for years was a highlight for me. Coach Bill Hall and I mixed up both batting and bowling trying to give all players an equal chance to play against some new faces, each player when asked tried their best for the team.
I’m sure that these boys will remember their time together at this year’s carnival when they see each other in future years playing representative cricket.
Thanks to all involved in the week. Mainly the organising committee of the carnival in Orange and groundsmen looking after the grounds, the parents/carers and supporters of the players and the Mitchell council committee.
It was great to see that the spirit of cricket is alive and well in these boys and their parents/carers.

MITCHELL CRICKET UMPIRES
During the 2017-18 season Mitchell Cricket Umpires officiated in the following competitions within our association:
• Mitchell Junior Competition. • Mitchell President’s Cup Competition • Mitchell Colts Competition • Mitchell Inter Council Junior Competition • Mitchell T20 Cup.
Whilst umpire numbers remain a concern it was most pleasing to see the majority of matches covered by at least one umpire. Thanks to both the Bathurst and Orange umpire branches for their assistance during the season, thanks also to fellow executive members of Mitchell Cricket Umpires for your assistance during the season. Orange has applied to stage an umpire training course in June and it is hoped that some new umpires gain their qualification at this course and actively seek to umpire next season.

TREASURERS REPORT
It is great pleasure and an honour to present the Treasurer’s Report for the year ended 30th April 2018.
The financial result for the Council for financial year 2017/2018 shows a loss of $170.38. However, the Council is still in a healthy state and this loss can be attributed to grant payments made throughout the year that was approved from previous seasons. I believe at the moment the levies imposed are right and will not need to be increased.
The following grants were paid out this season:
Mudgee District Cricket Association (installation of new turf wicket) $4,000
Blue Mountains Cricket Association (installation of new turf wicket) $4,000
Ryan Peacock (NSW CHS Tour to the UK) $500
Orange Cavaliers Cricket Club (storage shed, increase run ups) $3000
The MCC Committee has also approved the following grants when construction begins
Orange District Cricket Association (sight screens at Wade Park) $4,000
Orange CYMS Cricket Club (nets at Norton park) $4,000
Application for grants for the 2018/19 season are now open. Following changes from last AGM, all grant applications will need approval from a delegate meeting so please ensure applications are received prior to the meetings. Successful applicants will receive cheques with presentation of an invoice when the project as started.
I thank all associations for their prompt payment of the levies to ensure the council can function and accounts can be paid in a timely manner.
Matthew Tabbernor
Hon. Treasurer
