Profile by Blase DiStefano 35 years ago, Eli Gukich (pronounced JU-kitch) was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He lived there until he went to North Carolina State University, where he majored in architecture. He took a photography class as an elective, "but once I picked up a camera, everything just fell into place. I just seemed to immedi- ately know what I was doing with it." ~Jj~

He pursued photography only as a hobby; but when he left college, his first job was as a photographer working with a furniture designer (still in North Carolina). His job was to photograph all the furniture, and to design and produce the catalogue and fabric program that the designer used to sell ~ his product. The catalogue was Eli's first project out of school, and he won an award for excellence from CA iCom- munication Arts magazine); his catalogue layout and ~l - photography were featured in CA's 1973annual. He then came to Houston and began fashion photog- ~l raphy, in which he still specializes. He started working for TWT (This Week in Texas magazine) in • 1976, about a year after • its inception, and has q).,L ~ been with TWT ever since. ot What about your future in photography?
