K, I lied. June’s was not my last article, this one is. OTh ought you had already gotten rid of me, hug?! HA!! I truly want to, once again, thank everyone who helped me the past three years with putting together FOOTNOTES online. It was wild ride. And I couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you, from “my staff ” to the clubs, councils and all the extra people who sent in articles, ads and pictures. I will actually miss putting this magazine together, but it’s time for a break. It was great working with everyone and getting the online version go- ing. I also want to thank Cynda for taking on this task. It’s not always easy, but I know that she will do an awesome job with the magazine. Th e last two issues of last year she, pretty much, did on her own. She is picking up very fast. And has some great ideas for new and fun stuff to keep the magazine interesting for you readers. So keep checking it out each and every month. Take care everyone and we will see you out and about. Kathy (the Brat) & Frank Chase.

his is the time of year when we are working with the Tprocrastinators to get their memberships renewed for the coming year. We still have several clubs that we are doing our best to remind and assist in completing this renewal process. Since August 31st is the absolute deadline for these renewals, you will realize as you read this that On the fi rst day God created the cow. God said, “You must go to it may already be too late. On the second day God created the dog. God said, “Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks We are not trying to be mean, we’re simply trying to do past. I will give you a life span of twenty years.” Th e dog said, our job and the insurance regulations dictate the policies “Th at’s too long to be barking. Give me ten years and I’ll give back we have to follow. We will continue through the month of the other ten.” So God agreed. August to do our best to bring these delinquent clubs into compliance. On the third day God created the monkey. God said, “Entertain people, do monkey tricks, make them laugh. I’ll give you a twenty year life span.” Th e monkey said, “How boring, monkey trick for If you need help or have problems feel free to give us a call. twenty years? I don’t think so. Dog gave you back ten, so that’s what I’ll do too, okay?” And God agreed again.
On the fourth day God created man. God said, “Eat, sleep and play. Do nothing, just enjoy. I’ll give you twenty years.” Man said, “What? Only twenty years? No way! Tell you what, I’ll take my twenty, and the forty cow gave back, and the ten dog gave back and the ten monkey gave back. Th at makes eighty, okay?” “Okay,” said God. “You’ve got a deal.”
So, that is why for the fi rst twenty years we eat, sleep, play, enjoy and do nothing; for the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family; for the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain our grandchildren; and for the last ten years we sit in front of the house and bark at everybody.

hanks Margaret Kiser for inviting me to be the 2018-19 Th e Round of the Month for September is “Codi- TRound Dance Chairman. It was an honor to be in- go” by Ron and Georgine Woolcock. Other dances which volved in this way. Th e Round Dance Committee members were considered were “Blue Finger Lou (Phase II)” by Mike I’ve worked with have been very responsive and helpful. and Michelle Seurer, and “Let Me Be Th ere” by Connie I appreciate the help they have provided. Next year your Ritchie. Round Dance Chairmen will be Bob and Linda Berka. I know they will do a great job.
Northwest Round Dance Teachers Association, a member of our federation, sponsored a Cuer Seminar at Circle 8 Ranch in late June. Randy & Rose Wulf and Ron & Georgine Woolcock, both offi cers of the association, did a lot of the organization for the seminar and were seminar presenters. Th e featured clinicians were nationally known John and Karen Herr. Th ey facilitated discussions on many important topics of interest to cuers of all experience levels. A signifi cant number of relatively new cuers participated. It was wonderful to see the talent that these cuers bring to our area. Networking with other cuers was a favorite part of the seminar for me. Preliminary plans are in the works for another seminar sometime during the summer of 2021. Cuers, make plans to attend. Clubs and councils, consider sponsoring a new cuer by paying the registration fee and/ or expenses.
Th e state asked me to update the guidelines of the Round Dance Chairman. Th ey still refl ected a time when most of our communication was via snail mail rather than e-mail, and music was available primarily on vinyl rather than in digital form. I was not able to complete this task. I am however, forwarding my initial recommendations to Advertise Bob and Linda Berka. I hope they will be willing to com- your awesome plete the process and forward the recommendations to the Club, Dance, Business Federation. in FOOTNOTES

As I walked around the dance fl oor and looked to the seating areas, I was relieved that Marsha Sullivan there were fewer dancers sitting and waiting to be asked to dance than at previous festivals I have attended.
Possibly one of the reasons is that we have so many more dancers who can dance as either a belle or a beau. In looking at the registration forms, approx- imately one-third of the dancers registered as a solo. Many of these registrations, I am sure, were dancers who had a partner who registered separately, but most of the regular “coupled” solos used the same form and paid together. They were not included in the one-third count. This is a huge number, and one that all clubs and councils should take into consideration when doing their planning.
I also heard several concerns about not having information on the solo lunch and dinner announced in time to get the word out to everyone. This is a legitimate 24 | FOOTNOTES www.squaredance-wa.org SEPTEMBER 2019 YYOUTHOUTH CCOORDINATOROORDINATOR Caleb Hatch 425-229-0418 [email protected]
