DEATH OF THE REVEREND JOHN BEDFORD In the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life we give thanks for the life and ministry of John Bedford. We extend our sympathy, prayers and support to Sue and Cindy, Chris, Matthew and Mark as they mourn the death of their husband and father. Fr John faithfully served his Lord in the ordained ministry since 1960 in a number of dioceses before retiring to Tallebudgera. He was a very valuable locum priest in a number of parishes in the Gold Coast deanery including Gold Coast North, Beaudesert, and Mudgeeraba. We thank God for a loyal, honest, faithful, and always good-humoured friend, pastor and priest to many. RESOURCES FOR LENT 2013 Lent book " Homeward Bound " written by Bishop Doug Stevens based on the lectionary readings for Lent 2013 will be available for purchase mid December , from Grassroots Resources.

2013 LENT STUDY “Homeward Bound” Being in fellowship with God.

Many images come to mind when people think of home, but home is more than just one’s house and family. Home is the town you grew up in, home is your country, the place where people speak your language, share your values and support the same team.

Now, importantly, the concept of home was very early extended to include a spiritual dimension and location. Home was linked to God, to church, to where one’s heart finds peace and purpose. At home with God, people can and have experienced, the greatest sense of belonging and worthiness.

During the five studies we will look in different ways at the theme of being “Homeward Bound” • Lent 1 Deciding to head for home • Lent 2 Keeping an eye on the home ahead • Lent 3 Food and companionship for the journey home • Lent 4 Being renewed as we head home - Heading home purposefully • Lent 5 Home’s front door is opened

• Cost $ 9.50 plus postage (No postage on orders 40+) • First price change since 2008. • Full colour • Discounts on “Homeward Bound” for orders 50 and over • Books can be ordered and paid for on line or we will send an account • The readings are based on the Year "C" lenten lectionary readings using An Australian Lectionary.

News from the NCD Project PMC TAKING ON HANDLING OF NCD SURVEYS – TO SAVE YOU/PARISHES MONEY! Ralph Bowles has been negotiating with NCD Head Office for savings for parishes in the cost of their surveys. There are 2 ways money now can be saved: 1. The PMC itself handling the orders. 2. A number of orders being placed at once to get the discount for bulk order. So, we need parishes to order now for the bulk discount. When we have 20+ orders, the discount is 40% - the cost per survey FOR PARISHES becomes $297 rather than $495. From now on, all parishes will order their NCD surveys through the PMC. Ralph will continue to explain the details and your timing. HOWEVER, there are many parishes READY FOR THEIR NEXT SURVEY. HELP EACH OTHER – ORDER NOW. Ring Jo Mould 38352284 or Ralph Bowles 3514 7434 to place your order. The Rev’d. Jan Crombie, PMC ED

As Fr Tom had prior commitments at Mt Gravatt, it was with great joy that Chair of the BMF Committee Fr James Hall could give the BMF presentation. Fr James enthusiastically shared his stories from his time as priest of Mitchell and reminded the people how a priest in these remote areas is a priest not only to the Anglican church but to the entire community! He encouraged the parish to continue supporting those who are called to minister to communities in the bush so the love of Jesus can be shared. He said there are still parishes in the west without priests and others that need their support. Thank you to Fr Mark and the Parish for inviting BMF to share our story and thank you to them for their ongoing support.

“Writing prayers and intercessions is more like writing prose than narrative. What we look for are phrases, sometimes poetic in tone, that excite prayer through opening up our offering to God and expanding our imagination. We are not trying to dot every ‘i’ and cross every ‘t’” (Ian Black, Intercessions for Years A, B and C , 2009, p. xi). Are you responsible for writing prayers and intercessions? The items below could provide inspiration! Although these resources will be of particular interest to those leading others in prayer, many could also be used individually.

Vanstone, Sylvia Sands, Martyn Percy, Jim Cotter, 2007] Living the Christ life : rediscovering the seasons of the Christian year [Louise Mangan & Nancy Wyse with Lori Farr, 2001] Glimpses of glory : prayers for the church year [David Adam, 2000] Let us pray : intercessions following the Revised Common Lectionary [Janet Nelson, 1999]

“O God, you have searched us and known us. You know when we hunger, not for kindness or justice, but for comfort, success and contentment. You know when our fine words hide closed, hardened hearts, when we pass by the world’s hurting people. Give breath to your Spirit within us, O God. Be born in us again, as generosity, as tenderness, as freedom. Come, O Come, Emmanuel. Amen.” ( Living the Christ life : rediscovering the seasons of the Christian year , 2001, p. 35).
