Summer Reading Program 2018 willardlibrary.org Rock With Willard This Summer Willard Rocks Summer Willard Library is ready to rock your summer! “Willard Rocks” is the summer theme, and we hope you’ll jam with us at some of the terrific Reading Kickoff events we have planned. Get ready to rock this summer by attending Willard Library’s third annual Summer Reading Kickoff. Drop The third annual Summer Reading Kickoff will be from 5-7 p.m. on by the Helen Warner Branch between 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, to find out what’s planned for Wednesday, June 13, at the Helen Warner Branch. A DJ will spin the summer reading with the theme Willard Rocks. Children, teens, and adults are invited to sign up for the tunes, while participants mug for pictures in a photo booth and enjoy summer reading program. A DJ will play rock ’n’ roll music so you can show off your dance moves and treats from Cool Mama’s Ice Cream truck. The Willard Rocks Summer strike a pose for pictures in a photo booth. On the other weekdays, families are invited to enjoy: • Rockin’ Mondays with a new program every week including the Community Music School’s Bucket Beats. • Wednesdays feature Books Rock My World Family Story Time. • Thursdays star the Kingman Museum and the Leila Arboretum with hands-on science activities. • Fridays spotlight Read With Me. We’re jazzed about a couple of special events: Rockin’ & Rollin’ at Battleground Skate House will be offered on three afternoons, and Shark Week returns with five days of shark-dedicated fun including photos with our fun costume character, Charlie, the shark. YouTube wannabes may make their own music videos during a teen program. And, don’t forget to drop by either library to get your own “Willard Rocks” tattoo. The Pierce Room is named in honor of the Pierces. The Farley Room is named is after the foundation, and the Payne Room is named in honor of the Payne family, whose members managed the Farley Memorial Foundation for four generations. Larry Payne was president of the foundation when it selected Willard for its final disbursement of $50,000 upon its dissolution. The Farley Foundation supported health and education in Calhoun County. The meeting rooms benefit learners of all ages in Battle Creek and continue the foundation’s mission to support education. The rooms may be reserved by library cardholders in good standing, Dodd said, adding that they are available on a first-come, first-served basis during library hours. Reservations may be made by: 1. 18 19 Helen Warner Branch morning hours expanded Beginning Monday, June 4, Willard Library’s Helen Warner Branch will open at 9 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays as the downtown library does. “We are always looking for ways to expand our services to the public, and opening the branch library at the same time as downtown makes sense,” Leah Dodd, Willard Library director, said. “When the branch, located off Beckley Road, opened in 2004 that area was primarily retail businesses that opened at 10 a.m.,” Dodd said. “Throughout the years, the area around the branch has become a mix of other businesses such as doctors’ offices, health clubs, restaurants, and retail stores that open before 10 a.m.” “Many people enjoy doing their errands in the early morning, and we decided to open the branch library an hour earlier at 9 a.m. for their convenience,” she said.
