Chris McCord parents of a baby girl, Airlie Lena born during the week of the Chris has been an outstanding deputy principal whilst at Irrawang storm. High from 2008 until 2015. His professional enthusiasm, dynamic leadership and educational vision has been most significant in Three Year Plan 2015-2017 and Annual School guiding this school through stages of strategic planning and Report 2014 through the development of management and implementation To view both of these documents please go the school’s website at plans. He constantly exhibited all the traits of an educational www.irrawang-h.schools.nsw.edu.au leader and an educational manager.

Chris’ administration in his DP role and focus groups that he has lead School Diaries are exemplary. His communication skills both oral and written are hard Please note that all students were issued with school diaries at the to match and have added appreciably to the school tone. Many a beginning of the school year. I would ask all parents to ensure their thoughtful and direct message to staff, couched with humour has had child is using their diary. great effect in maintaining harmonious, but effective working procedure in the school. Staff members looked to Chris for guidance and career path planning. His computer skills have been extensively developed to provide high level publication and communication to the benefit of the whole school.

The school wishes Chris all the best in his move to Kotara High School as Deputy Principal.

Joan Akerman and Jeannie Duncan It has been a clean finish for cleaners JOAN AND JEANNIE who will leave a vacuum when they swept off into retirement after a magnificent 38 years and 20 years respectively at Irrawang High School.

I have had the privilege of knowing both these women for the past 20 years and during that time they both conscientiously and energetically carried out their duties. They earned a reputation for dependability and competence and took pride in their work. They both had many skills including a very pleasant, courteous and helpful personality. They showed patience and good humour at all times.

We hope their memories don’t gather dust. There's more to these two people than dust and fluff. They kept their lives clean. Both are wonderful people. Over many years they played an important role in our school and were widely regarded by all in the school community. They attended almost all our school’s social functions.

They always provided a quality service which was highly valued. Their significant contribution in promoting the School’s reputation was greatly appreciated.

We wish you both a happy, healthy and long retirement and hope you maintain the many links you have in this community.

ANZAC Day Commemoration Ceremonies Thanks to Ms McCready, Ms Robinson, Mrs de Wit, parents and our school captains and drummers for their organisation and participation in ANZAC Day services at Medowie and Raymond Terrace. We postponed the school’s ANZAC Day service until the 6 May.

Farewell Clemence/Ag Plot

Bonjour Clemence By Mrs L Fagan Community Liaison Officer

Our French/Belgium Rotary Exchange student, 18 year old Clemence Toisoul will sadly be leaving us in seven weeks time after enjoying “the best year of my life.” Clemence has been in Port Stephens and at Irrawang High since July 2013 and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Williamtown where she has spent four months with three host families.

Arriving with a very small grasp of the English language, Clemence found the first few months at school very challenging but has now overcome those difficulties. “Everything is different here, the weather, the culture, and we don’t have school uniforms at home,” she said.

Whilst in Australia, Clemence has visited Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra but the highlight of her whole exchange to date has been her three week trip into the outback with all the other Rotary exchange programs.

We will miss Clemence, she has been a wonderful student and fitted into the school well and we look forward to seeing her back here for a visit in the near future.

A busy time on the school farm . . . By Mrs L Fagan Community Liaison Officer

Our school incubator came in very handy recently with a very cute guinea fowl hatching and hopefully another 22 not far behind.

Ms Henry, our specialist Agriculture teacher will encourage the students to start "showing" the chickens and guinea fowl at various shows around the area.

Our beautiful miniature horse, Lulu and the school cow co -habit well with no shortage of feed.

Vegetable seedlings from the school hothouse have been transplanted into 15 specially constructed garden beds made by the students. Also growing rapidly is a huge pumpkin patch, with our annual corn crop producing sweet, juicy produce.

Have you changed your personal details?

If your student has any change in their personal details eg doctor, emergency contact, telephone no., address etc, please inform the school

ASAP.

Canteen/7L Tech Projects

Canteen News By Mrs L Fagan Community Liaison Officer

Our canteen supervisor, Mrs Ryner (pictured right) will be adding some new winter warmer items to the canteen menu for Terms 2 and 3, including Spaghetti Bolognaise, wedges with sweet chilli and sour cream, mashed potato and fried rice. Nachos are already proving a big hit with students and staff.

Stay tuned for more canteen updates.

Year 7 complete their first tech project By Mrs L Fagan Community Liaison Officer

Year 7L Design and Technology students showed lots of creativity whilst completing their first and second term projects - a key ring holder which they had to plan, design and construct from scratch. Teacher, Mr Gordon ably assisted by Ms Walker helped these students achieve their goals. Students also had to complete a portfolio on their project.

Looks like some mums were the lucky recipients on Mothers Day!
