February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. Aline: My name is Aline Brosh McKenna and I'm the co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Rachel: My name is Rachel Bloom and I am the other co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Hrishikesh: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was a genre-bending TV show—part comedy, part drama, part musical, that aired for four seasons on the CW, from 2015 to 2019. It was a show that challenged and subverted the familiar tropes of romantic comedies. And along the way, it won a Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globe Award, and four Emmys, including some for the star of the show, Rachel Bloom, who co-created it with Aline Brosh McKenna. When it comes to romantic comedies, Aline Brosh McKenna is a master of the form, having written the screenplays for 27 Dresses and The Devil Wears Prada, among others. But before Rachel and Aline got to deconstructing romantic comedies, they had a meet-cute of their own, thanks to the website Jezebel. Here’s Aline. Aline: I was in my old office, which is on the Hanson Lot and I was procrastinating. And at the time I used to read Jezebel pretty regularly, and I saw a little piece on - Rachel had a new video out.

  • Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Feminist Politics of Offence
KATRIN HORN “PERIOD SEX”: CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND AND FEMINIST POLITICS OF OFFENCE When cartoon versions of the supporting cast call the main character of The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015–) exactly that – a crazy ex-girlfriend – in the opening credits of season one, the offended Rebecca Bunch (played by co-creator Rachel Bloom) vehemently protests: “the situation is a lot more nuanced than that!” TV critics mostly agree, calling the show “witty, well-acted, brazenly inventive, and a pleasure to watch” (Bastién 2017) or simply “The Best Show on TV [...] that demonstrates the near-total creative freedom of TV’s latest evolutionary period better than any other” (Zoller Seitz 2016). A Slate-review that proclaims it “one of the most critically acclaimed programs on broadcast television,” however, also notes that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (CXG) is not “among the lowest [rated], but consistently in the absolute last spot, almost as if it’s trying to make a point” (Wilson 2018). Headlines like “4 reasons why ‘Crazy Ex- Girlfriend’ is the best show you’re not watching (Fitzpatrick 2015) are therefore a staple of the show’s critical reception. The explanation usually given – “Hate the title? Us too […]” (Pandell 2016) – is that show’s title, “a sexist term,” as the credit sequence acknowledges, is so offensive it repels most potential viewers. The embrace of offensiveness in the “Subversive Show with the Terrible Name” (Lenker 2016), however, does not stop there. It instead extents to narrative as well as aesthetic levels. As such, the title is not so much ‘terrible’ as it is telling: it proclaims the show’s reliance on offence, which is used – this article argues – as a tool of feminist critique of contemporary modes of representation of women, romance, and mental illness.

  • Movie Review Múinteoir Ray’S Lesson Today Was All About Writing a Film Review
Home Tuesday School 19th May Hub 1st & 2nd Class English Movie Review Múinteoir Ray’s lesson today was all about writing a film review. Here is the checklist of what to include in a film review: The film’s title. An eye-catching heading or opening line The creators - Director, actors etc. The genre - The type of film The audience - Who is the film for e.g. for what age group The plot – A short summary of the film that doesn’t mention the end Your opinion Your evaluation Check out RTÉ Home School Hub everyday on RTÉ 2, RTÉ Player & rte.ie/learn. Trolls World Tour Here is an example of a very recent film review (written for adults). Have a read and answer the questions at the end. “Trolls World Tour is a pitch-perfect family film” By John Byrne (https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/reviews/) Reviewer score: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Director: Walt Dorhn Starring: Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, James Corden, Rachel Bloom, Ozzy Osbourne It’s a reflection of the times we’re in, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, that this fun animated movie skips a general cinema release and goes straight to download. It’s a pity, as Trolls World Tour is a bright and bouncy affair that would look amazing on the big screen. Still, it’s a fine sequel and anyone who enjoyed its Trolls predecessor will lap this one up. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake return as Poppy and Branch in what’s pretty much an all-star sequel to the 2016 musical hit.
