Description Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) is the sporting specialist school of the Victorian State Government supporting more than 550 talent identified student-athletes. MSA has 14 main sport programs and employs a team of over 70 highly qualified and experienced coaches, strength & conditioning and athlete services staff. In 2019, over 150 student-athletes achieved Victorian State or Australian National representative honours (2020 saw most events cancelled due to Covid). MSA now seeks applications for the role of Head Coach for its Netball Program. The Netball Program has approximately 50 student-athletes (Years 7 – 12) who currently train 2-3 times per week in the MSA Program in addition to external club and representative netball. These student-athletes train either before school, 7am – 8.30am or after school, 3.30 – 4.45pm. Student-athletes also do the High Performance Preparation (HPP) subject during school time which includes strength and conditioning sessions, sports psychology and sports nutrition education and support.

It is envisaged that the role will be up to 8-12 hours per week (during school terms), spread across Monday to Friday and will include approximately 6 hours of coaching plus program administration and one-to-one coaching, development and support for the highest level athletes. The Head Coach will work within a high performance environment and will be supported by teachers, strength & conditioning and administration staff with International, National and State elite sport experience.

It is important to note that the MSA Program is an individual development program. The aim of the program is to develop individual student-athletes to reach their potential academically and athletically. Winning school sport competitions is not an objective of the program.

MSA is looking for a Head Netball Coach that can embrace the individual development model and work with each student-athlete to maximise their netball potential.

Duties 1. To develop and deliver a high performance netball program for student-athletes (Years 7 – 12) which is consistent with and Netball ’s technical direction. 2. To develop and implement a Talent ID program in sync with Netball Australia guidelines on Talent Identification. 3. Establish and maintain strong professional relationships and communication with all stakeholders, including but not limited to Netball Australia, , Australian Netball League Clubs and Victorian Netball League clubs, local associations and clubs. 4. Monitor new developments in the field of sport science specific to netball, in particular, the use of existing and new tools pertinent to the area of performance analysis. 5. Ensure the welfare of the athletes is maintained by ensuring that they are aware of the support structures available to them, and encourage a harmonious group environment by liaising with all team members, other coaches, the college and parents.

Skills and Requirements 1. Ability to develop and deliver a high performance netball program. 2. Demonstrated experience and success in coaching and developing talented athletes. 3. Netball Coaching Qualifications – Advanced Level (essential), Elite or High Performance Level (desired). 4. An ability to work as part of the broader MSA team to ensure a holistic and complementary experience for all student-athletes. 5. Ability to provide feedback to talented athletes via video analysis and other sport analytic tools. 6. Working with children check – essential.
