A very warm welcome to Hoon Hay School 2016! It is wonderful to have the school buzzing again with the chitter chatter of children catching up with friends and teachers. They are excited to be back and this sort of enthusiasm is infectious. Chuck in the beautiful weather and it has been a super summer start. I love to make the most of all holidays - I thoroughly enjoy my own children having the freedom from school routines and most of all the absence of school lunches. It is a privilege to be able to wander around the classrooms and experience the very special warmth and supportive learning environments that our teachers create for your children. I can’t help but be impressed with the positive relationships and a strong sense of fun that is part of the Hoon Hay Way. As the Mastercard advertisement goes – it’s priceless! We warmly welcome all our new children and their families to Hoon Hay School. When you see them around please take the time to greet them ensuring they get the full Hoon Hay treatment. Have a look at the gorgeous photos of our new starters. Thanks for having the children looking neat and tidy in uniform. For your own sanity (and ours) please clearly name the sunhat ☺ Thank you to Kevin and Dave, our caretakers, for ensuring the grounds are in tip top condition. For those of you that were watching TVOne Breakfast on Monday morning you may have recognised that Hoon Hay School was the centre piece for the traffic report. Thanks to Blake R and Max O’C for faking a very early road patrol to give the piece more authenticity. th th Next week on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 we welcome you into the school for Starting School Interviews. Knowing our children and having good relationships are important for success at school. We would love you to take the opportunity to share things about your child with their teacher/s. We have sent home a form for you to think about, complete and bring to the interview with you. This was sent home with your child this week and also via e-mail. If you need a copy of this, please contact the office. To book your interview time please visit www.schoolinterviews.co.nz, and use the code: ETTW4. I hope you have all survived those return to school routines such as making lunches, early starts and keeping track of uniform! Have a wonderful Waitangi Weekend and we’ll see you Tuesday! You can leave a message by phoning 338 7493 or text to 027 9116019. This saves our office staff a lot of time. • If you child has an appointment during the day or is leaving early for any reason, please arrange to meet them in the office and sign them out – they must come back to the school office when they return and sign themselves back in too. A reminder that School opens at 8.30 am and we discourage children arriving before this time as the school grounds and classrooms are not supervised before this time. At 3.20pm the clearing bell rings at 3.20pm – and we ask that children who haven’t been collected come straight to the office so we can get them sorted. We would appreciate you reminding your children about this – we don’t want anyone feeling lost or sad if mum or dad happen to be late (we all know it can happen!). Free Dental Care for Children One of our Community Dental Service preventive mobiles will be visiting your school soon. We will be aiming to see that all school age children enrolled with the Community Dental Service have their dental check-up in the dental mobile while it is there. The dental therapist will not only be checking the children’s teeth but will also Xray, clean, and apply protective treatments (including fluoride) if required. If your child requires further dental care such as fillings they will bring home a ‘Care Plan’ which will explain what dental care and appointment times are required. When you receive the ‘Care Plan’ please contact our Call Centre as soon as possible as you will need to arrange a time to bring your child to one of our Community Clinics for this dental care. Please let us know ASAP if you do not wish your child to have any of this care, you can talk to the staff in the mobile or phone/email our Call Centre. If you wish to be present at your child’s check up this will need to take place at our community clinic so please phone/email our Call Centre to make an appointment. Please contact our Call Centre if you want further information on the Community Dental Service, to enrol your child or if you have any specific questions about your child’s dental care (a dental therapist will call you back). To contact our Call Centre please phone 0800 846 983 or email us at [email protected] 4 Website The website is well used and where you can find all current information. It has a calendar of events which lets you know dates and times, etc. The News Centre also has all the latest news, cancellations, updates and the daily notices. These can all be accessed from home. It is the place to go first when you need to know what is happening and when. You can sign up to twitter to ensure you receive all emergency information immediately.
