Carlisle Rfc £5 CARLISLE RFC ADMISSION V BROUGHTON BY MATCH PARK PROGRAMME & NEWSREEL £5 RFU SSE NORTH 1 WEST LEAGUE 2014—2015 Saturday, 15th November 2014 - 2.15 WELCOME TO BROUGHTON P A special welcome this afternoon as for many clubs, it could be a to Broughton Park and we trust long hard slog. Recent games that their President, committee, between our two clubs have been team & followers have a good tense affairs, and there is no rea- afternoon in Carlisle (apart from son to think this afternoon will be the result). Without the referee we would not be able to enjoy the Game. The referee deserves respect at all times and there is no place for any form of abuse to be directed at the referee, either on or off the field. Players regularly make mistakes, and the match official is not perfect and he / she too will not always get it right. If the referee does make an error of judgement that should never the signal for abuse from a player, coach, official or a spectator. Remember that, in almost all cases the referee is a volunteer and provides a service to the game so that we can all enjoy it. People wanting to referee are in short supply, and one of the reasons given for the shortage of volunteers is, alleged abuse. PLEASE RESPECT THE REFEREE AT ALL TIMES. THE REFEREE The playing enclosure is out of bounds at all times except to those authorised to be there by the game regulations. Spectators are asked to remain behind the barriers (where they exist), and where pitches do not have a permanent barrier, you are requested to stand well back from IS AN the touch line. This will allow the touch judge to officiate without hindrance, and also reduce the probability of injury to any player or spectator in the event of a collision! INTEGRAL Whilst people are free to encourage their team it is expected that supporters will use moderate PART OF language so as not to intimidate or offend others. There have been instances, particularly at junior and youth games, where there has been encroachment on the field, or dubious verbal encouragement from parents. This is not a good example to set. Lads and lasses need the OUR freedom to express themselves on the field of play without any undue intimidation from the sidelines. GAME Carlisle RFC will not hesitate to take appropriate action where necessary, Have a great day, RESPECT PLEASE . 2 2 INSIDE THIS ISSUE Broughton P 2 Mumblings 3 Rocke on cup duty v Kendal in cup last week Captain 4 MORT’S MUMBLINGS Well, the Cumbria Cup has come and gone for another Youth 9 season and the long wait for silverware will be transferred to next season! It’s not that we couldn’t have beaten Ken- dal at Warwick Road last week; we beat ourselves instead! Clearly there is a need for a little more steely determination Gossip 12 and concentration in our play. So much looked promising for much of the game, and with five minutes remaining, and having had them on the back foot for much of the game, we let the barriers down, and in they went for a brace of tries to seal the right of passage to the next round. Sponsors 30 Lessons will be learnt, and for those that were beating themselves up after the game - don’t - everyone did their damndest. The disappointment last week was the fact that TEAMSHEET 31 we let the match slip in the dying embers of the game, hith- erto this season, a period in games when we have been strong and deliberate. Back to league action this afternoon gives us the chance to Respect Code 32 improve our league standing but beware, Broughton Park have been sending out warning signals with their results! 3 MR PRESIDENT CAPTAIN COMMENTS Last Saturday is a weekend we don’t want to remember, a game that was in the bag with five minutes to go and when a lack of concentration, skills and decision making let us down. But, we have to dust ourselves down and get back on the horse, and once again learn from our mistakes; a regular line now in these columns! It feels as though the county cup is not meant to be at this club, and I don’t know why! • Welcome to St Benedict's
Welcome to St Benedict’s A very warm welcome to players, officials and spectators of St Benedict’s. This is one of many long away trips for the Cumbrian club, as their only short hop is to Kirkby Lonsdale - and that takes an hour! We made the trek up to Workongton in September and played a side which was continuing its success in the North Lancs and Cumbria Division by winning its first two games in North 1 West. They made it three by beating us. After dominating the opening exchanges, Warrington sudeenly found themselves behind when a speculative kick and a fortuitous bounce gave Benedict’s the lead after 20 minutes. Although Warrington replied with a converted 30 yard try from prop Elliot Johnstone, two Benedict’s penalties gave the home side a six point half time lead. The second half saw Benedict’s adopt a running, rather than a kicking, approach to their game and this allowed them to score a further twelve points without reply, although Warrington could take some comfort from the fact that they lost three key players through injury.. St Benedict’s was founded in 1974, a Rugby Union Club in what is still a hotbed of amateur and professional Rugby League. I am sure that many of us Warrington RL (and Wigan) supporters remember those trips to Workington and Whitehaven in the 50s, 60s and 70s. They were always hard games and we rarely won, playing against the likes of Frank Foster, Ike Southward and Dick Huddart on their own midden. We also have a further connection with the Cumbrian coast, as one of our more illustious Vets, Kevin Tamati, coached at Whitehaven for two years.

  • Welcome to Broughton Park a Very Warm Welcome to Players, Officials and Spectators of Broughton Park
Welcome to Broughton Park A very warm welcome to players, officials and spectators of Broughton Park. It is over two years since we last met and we look forward to a game played in the usual competitive spirit which has always been associated with our clashes. Broughton Park is one of the oldest clubs in the country, having been formed in 1882, just eleven years after the founding of the RFU. Over the years, it has nurtured many international players and more recent stars have included, Tony Neary, Tony Bond and Kevin O’Brien. (I must con- fess that I actually turned out for Park in my dotage, when I played in the twos and threes with people such as Arthur Light, a past president, who was also a professional wrestler, and a Swiss international, Hans-Peter Endress, who was also managing director of the global instrumentation company, Endress & Hauser.) Games against Park have always been feisty and the result was often in favour of the home side, to the extent that we started to think of Hough End as our bogey ground. Our last four meetings show two wins for Park and two wins for Warrington. In season 2014/2015 Park notched up two good victories but in 2015/2016 we won both fixtures. In November 2015, we came back from being 19-13 down with just 12 minutes to go when Matt Connelly touched down under the posts and Darren Norman converted. The win in April 2016 was much easier and we won 34-8 and virtually condemned Park to demotion to South Lancs/Cheshire 1.
