Anniversary Park Shoreline Expansion, Chestermere CLIENT: TOWN OF CHESTERMERE, ALBERTA, 2012 - ONGOING

McElhanney is currently working with the Town of Chestermere for the Anniversary Park shoreline expansion and park redevelopment. As part of conceptual design, McElhanney developed an unique and outside-of-the-box design for this key park in the town located along the Lake Chestermere.

The landscape design proposes a 4m wide promenade from the north end of the park to the south end along the lake shore and the beach area. The central part of the promenade is proposed as a boardwalk and varies in width from 8-10m. This wider space is intended to be used as an urban plaza with space for seating, circulation as well as for vendor booth. The space in connection with the boardwalk also includes fi ve undulating grass panels (each 6m wide x18m long), each of which gently roll from the top of the promenade down to the sand beach. These grass panels would serve as an artwork in itself and would add play value and vibrancy to the heart of the park. The grass panels will provide a soft space for parents to sit while their kids are playing on the beach or in the water. These grass panels could also serve as a great space for sunbathing.

McElhanney provided following services for this project - - Master planning, Landscape architecture and urban design, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Assessment, Hydrotechnical Assessment, Environmental Assessment

PROPOSED PLAN Redevelopment of Crowfoot Crossing Mall, Calgary CLIENT: PRIVATE DEVELOPER, CALGARY, 2011 - ONGOING For the Redevelopment of Crowfoot Crossing Mall,McElhanney designed a new, innovative master plan for the massive parking lot of this mall. The proposed design improves the vehicular circulation and traffic safety. The proposed design includes two small parks in the mall setting, which not only serve as anchors for visual orientation but also help establish the mall as a pedestrian friendly development. The master plan achieved the necessary parking count through innovative ways. The proposed innovative plan and detail design elements (such as wide sidewalks and cotemporary paving design) introduces a shift in mall developments from auto-oriented development to more pedestrian oriented development.
