FERNANDO EIMBCKE He studied film direction at the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos of the UNAM (1992- 1996). He started his career directing music videoclips and short films. His feature debut in Mexican cinema was Temporada de patos (Duck Season) in 2004, which won several awards including the Ariel Award (Mexican Oscar) for Best Film. His latest film, Lake Tahoe was received positively at Berlin International Film Festival, winning the FIPRESCI award and the Alfred Bauer Award, at Cartagena International Film Festival he received the India Catalina Award, winner of the Semilla Award for Best Feature Film at Cero Latitud in Ecuador. Winner for Best Direction at Guadalajara International Film Festival. THE WELCOMING by Fernando Eimbcke This is the story of Elisa, whose father’s last wish is to be buried in . Elisa, an American citizen, doesn’t understand why her father wants to be buried in a country that forced him to emigrate in order to survive. Upon Elisa’s arrival to her father’s village she understands how little is left from the Mexican Revolution in which her grandfather fought, however she discovers the value of the homeland and why it is worth it to go back.

PATRICIA RIGGEN She was born in Guadalajara, México, and holds an MFA in Film Direction from Columbia University. Her first short film La Milpa, screened in more than 30 film festivals and won the Mexican Academy Award, the DGA East Coast Student Filmmaker Award and the Gold Medal from the Student Academy Awards. Her by Patricia Riggen next short, Family Portrait, won the Jury Price in Short Filmmaking at Sundance in 2005 and was named Best Documentary Film at the Aspen Short Film Festival. In 2007 she released her first film La Misma Luna at Sundance Film Festival, BEAUTIFUL which became a huge box office success in Mexico and USA. & BELOVED LUCIO by Gael García Bernal Lucio spends the weekend with his grandmother and his cousins preparing his flag salute for school. GAEL GARCÍA BERNAL At age 19 he left Mexico’s television world to study acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu tracked him down and offered him a part in Amores Perros. Subsequently, García Bernal starred in some of Mexico’s most celebrated recent films, including Y tu mamá también (2001) and El crimen del Padre Amaro (2002). In 2004 he starred as a young Che Guevara (Argentinian Marxist Revolutionary) in The Motorcycle Diaries. García Bernal also directed his first feature film, Déficit, which premiered at Semaine International de la Critique Cannes 2007. He participated as one of the directors in the project 8 along with Mira Nair, and which premiered as an Opening Film at the Rome International Film Festival. AMAT ESCALANTE He is a self-taught filmmaker from the city of Guanajuato, Mexico. He began to devote himself completely to cinema at the age of 15. After completing two short films, he wrote and directed his first feature, Sangre, a film shot in his native Gua- najuato that premiered in the Official Selection of the in 2005, where it received the FIPRESCI Prize (award). His second film Los Bastardos premiered at the Official Selection Un Certain Regard Cannes in 2008. He also won the New Visions Award at the Catalonian International Film Festival, Feature Film Competition Award at the Morelia International Film Fes- tival, won the Best Ibero-American Film Award at Mar del Plata Film Festival, the Critics Award at Lima Latin American Film Festival, won the Student Jury Award and Best Director at Bratislava International Film Festival. CARLOS REYGADAS He studied Law in Mexico, afterwards he specialized in Armed Conflicts in London and worked for the United Nations. In 1997 Reygadas participated in a film competition in Belgium with his first short film, Maxhumain. Shortly after that, in 1999, he began writing his first long film, Japón. The film was presented at the Rotterdam Film Festival and received a special mention for the Caméra d’Or award at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival as well as the Coral Award of the Film Festival. He directed Batalla en el Cielo in 2005 which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes and won the FIPRESCI Prize at Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. In 2007 his film Stellet Licht competed once more for the Palme d’Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival winning the Jury Award, he also won the Grand Prize at Riga International Film Forum ‘Arsenals’, the Golden Colón at Huelva Latin Before the Revolution, landlords or businessmen used to pay their employees with vouchers redeemable only in their own stores, known as “Estate Stores”. The same wage policies are still used nowadays by some corporations and the government.

GERARDO NARANJO He began working on film criticism and in 1997 directed his first short Perro Negro. From there Gerardo went on to pursue a Masters in Directing at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. His Masters thesis The Last Attack of the Beast won several awards and much critical acclaim and acted as a springboard for his debut feature film Malachance (2004). The next year he co-wrote and starred in Azazel Jacobs’ The Good Times Kid (2005). His sophomore effort, Drama/Mex, premiered at Cannes in May 2006 for the “Semaine de la Critique” before going on to screen at fifty more festivals around the world. Gerardo’s new film I’m Gonna Explode premiered at the 65th Venice Biennale in 2008 and was officially selected for the 46th New York Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, Berlinale (Generation Program) and won the FIPRESCI award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival. 30/30 by Rodrigo Plá
