The Dazzler 192 Cheshire Women's League Ma THE Didsbury go top of division 1 after vital win over Porthill … Oakmere hopes dashed as DAZZLER 192 Trinity cling on for first league win … Upton beat Leigh to keep division 2 as a five- horse race … Woodley still unbeaten in division 3 after impressive win over Didsbury 2s … Please spread the word about the finals and Lancs Thunder ‘Super Sunday’, as Georgians become the second team to book a spot in a final CHESHIRE WOMEN’S LEAGUE Di vision One – July 21: Didsbury 192-6 (40; Hannah Jones 69, Roshini Prince-Navaratnam 37, Mishel Jeena 28, Ellie-Mae Davies 3-26) (25pts) Porthill Park 106-6 (40; Luana Sims 21*, E Jones 20, Hana Rafiq 2-8, Zara Matthews 2-19, H Jones 2-24) (6pts) A potentially vital result as Didsbury resoundingly maintained their unbeaten record in league matches, while Porthill now join Appleton on two defeats and those two clubs may now need to win all of their remaining matches. Porthill are now in that situation after being unable to stop Mishel Jeena and Roshini Prince-Navaratnam once again getting Didsbury off to a flyer. Hannah Jones then took over in style with a half century, with only prolific wicket-taker Ellie-Mae Davies really able to keep things in check. Didsbury’s in form bowlers completed the job, with Hana Rafiq keeping her economy rate down to one per over and Hannah Jones ending Evelyn Jones’ prolific run. Stockport Trinity 109 (37; Carys White 39, Natalie Lyons 3-17, Leah Holland 2-18) (25pts) Oakmere 108 (38; Rachel Warrenger 25, Lyons 22, Phoebe Cottam 21, Gillian Spragg 3-22, Hattie Roberts 2-28) (8pts) Oakmere’s hopes of a third successive title are all but gone after going down to a second defeat in succession, this time by the smallest of margins. Gillian Spragg and Hattie Roberts’ wickets were certainly important, especially given that no Oakmere player made a significant score, but the wicketless Emma Royle played a major role, conceding just six runs in a full eight over spell. This is Trinity’s first league win of the year. Division Two – July 21: Leigh 76 (28.4; Emma Capper 25, Ellie Davey 21, Sophie Morris 4-17, Ellen McGowan 3-4, Hannah McGowan 2-18) (4pts) Upton 77-3 (26.4; Lily Scudder 36*, Kasey Bentham 2-9) (25pts) Division Two remains very hard to call, and just as Leigh appeared to be building up a head of steam in recent weeks, Upton served notice here that they are not out of the race. Appleton 2nd XI (25pts) w/o Wistaston Village (minus 10pts) July 28: Stockp ort Georgians (25pts) w/o Wistaston Village (minus 10pts) Appleton 2nd XI v Ashton-on-Mersey – Cancelled due to rain – 8pts each Division Three – July 18: Lymm Oughtrington Park 44 (20; Tasneem Akram 3-2, S Zaman 2-4, Zoe Rigley 2-5) (1pt) Didsbury 2nd XI 45-0 (10.2) (25pts) Another resounding win for the leaders. July 21: Lymm Oughtrington Park 48 (19.1; Alex Wilson 3-5, Georgie Morton 3-9) (1pt) Woodley 50-1 (7.4; Claire Anderton 17*, Nicola Derbyshire 17*) (25pts) With games in hand, Woodley also remain in contention for their first trophy, and were also in fine form here. Hawarden Park (25pts) w/o Marple (minus 10pts) July 22: Woodley 95-6 (20; Abby Barlow 45, Hana Rafiq 2-10, Rachel Saunders 2-25) (25pts) Didsbury 2nd XI 37-9 (20; Kate Robinson 4-15, Georgie Morton 2-8) (3pts) July 22: Woodley 95-6 (20; Abby Barlow 45, Hana Rafiq 2-10, Rachel Saunders 2-25) (25pts) Didsbury 2nd XI 37-9 (20; Kate Robinson 4-15, Georgie Morton 2-8) (3pts) Division three remains a three-horse race, so the matches between the contenders assume critical importance. Here Woodley decisively beat Didsbury and kept their rivals down to three points. Division Four – July 21: Heaton Mersey & Cheadle 60-6 (20; Jo Seddon 3-11, Claire Ashworth 2-12) (4pts) Lindow 64-1 (11.4; Ashworth 21*, Seddon 18*) (25pts) A comprehensive win that suggests Lindow could yet win a divisional title in their first season in the league The next meeting of the League Committee will be on Wednesday August 7 at 1930, venue to be confirmed. Permanent transfers: Lucy Neil – Oakmere to Stockport Trinity Player loans: Claire Anderton, Nicola Nolan and Becky Baldock – all Ashton-on-Mersey to Woodley Haf Morgan-Read and Laura Nicholls have joined Rachel Warrenger and Nicky Deane in being loaned from Hawarden Park to Oakmere. Morgan-Read, Warrenger and Deane are also dual registered to Oakmere for the T20 Divisional Competition. Clubs are reminded that loan players can now make just three league loan appearances for the same club during the same season, so it is no longer possible to approve open-ended loans as may have been the case in previous seasons. August 18 is shaping up to be a hugely exciting day for the women’s game in Cheshire. For the first time, the Lancashire Thunder team have chosen to play one of their Super League home matches outside of the Red Rose county, and they will host Western Storm at Chester Boughton Hall CC at 1430 on this day in a match that will feature some of the world’s best female players. Sophie Ecclestone will return to the ground where she made her first steps in senior cricket in the Chester club’s women’s first team between 2012 and 2016 and is joined in the Thunder team by her England colleagues Alex Hartley, Sophia Dunkley and Kate Cross. A current CWCL player in Porthill Park’s captain Evelyn Jones is also in the Thunder squad once again alongside three overseas players in India’s Harmanpreet Kaur, Australia’s Tahlia McGrath and South Africa’s Sune Luus. Western Storm have England captain Heather Knight alongside Anya Shrubsole, Fran Wilson, Freya Davies, New Zealand’s Rachel Priest, India’s Smriti Mandhana and West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor. The League is also making this a huge ‘festival day’ for women’s cricket and playing its four cup finals – in the Senior Knockout, Senior Plate, Development Knockout and T20 Divisional Competition - at Chester on the same day, with two matches at approximately 1000 and two more at approximately 1730. At present, we know that Stockport Trinity are through to the T20 divisional final and Stockport Georgians will feature in the Plate final. There will be an admission charge of £5 for adults and £1 for juniors at all Thunder home matches, however the League hopes to subsidise the entrance fee for players and officials of the clubs involved in the Finals. Although Chester Boughton Hall is the venue, in effect the whole of the Cheshire cricket fraternity is hosting and organising this event and offers of help will be very welcome. In the meantime, please think of anywhere you could post or display the flyer that has been sent with this newsletter. The League Committee asks clubs not to re-arrange any matches for this day, even where there is no chance of either club being involved in the finals. We also look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Lancashire Thunder’s other home matches. Unlike the last two years, none of their home matches will be double-headers with men’s T20 Blast matches. Liverpool CC will play host to the matches against Southern Vipers (Tuesday August 6) and Yorkshire Diamonds (August 13) – both matches start at 1430. Old Trafford will stage the match against Loughborough Lightning on August 20 at 1830. The Thunder will host Surrey Stars on Wednesday August 28 at Blackpool CC at 1430. T20 DIVISIONAL COMPETITION Western Division – July 21: Nantwich Vipers 95 (19.4; Sophie Winward 22, Gemma Rose 4-25, Hannah Snape 2-11) Chester Boughton Hall Deemons 96-0 (16.4; Megan Cureton 27ret, Ali Cutler 25ret, Snape 25ret) It was something of a Super Sunday today with matches in all four divisions of the league, and in this competition was well. Gemma Rose’s best figures of the season was the standout performance in clinching what turned out to be a comfortable win for Chester. Both clubs finish with two wins and two defeats in this division and going into this match it was never likely that either could top the division and get through to the final. Chester’s hopes of being represented in their ‘home’ finals day now rest with the knockout competitions. Eastern Division – July 15: Ashton-on-Mersey 90-4 (20; Becky Baldock 27ret, Claire Anderton 25, Abby Barlow 2-21) Woodley 73-9 (Nicola Derbyshire 22, Sinead Murphy 3-11, Jordi Matthews 2-14) A second win for AOM in this division this year. July 25: Stockport Georgians w/o Woodley KNOCKOUT CUPS Knockout Plate Semi-Final – July 23: Stockport Georgians 115-3 (20; Beth Garnett 25ret, Natalie Bell 25ret, Maddy White 22) Marple 82-9 (20; Freya Jones 17*, Liv Bell 5-6, Becky Scholes 2-2, Cleo Johnson 2-4) Georgians total was imposing enough but Liv Bell ripped through the Marple top order in reply to ensure her team will play Woodley or Upton on Finals Day Development Knockout Cup Quarter-Final – July 23: Didsbury 2nd XI 167-3 (20; S Zaman 28ret, Lucy Thompson-Smith 26ret, Kate Scott-Griffiths 25ret, Hana Rafiq 25ret, A Petch 21) Heaton Mersey & Cheadle 67 (15; Julia Tymoshenko 17, Z Sharif 2-6, Zaman 2-8) No less than four players reached the retirement score as Didsbury underlined their enviable strength in depth MATCHES AWAITING POSSIBLE RE-ARRANGEMENT Division 2: Nantwich v Oxton (ground availability issues) Division 3: Didsbury 2nd XI v Woodley, Lymm v Woodley (both weather conditions) Division 4: Lindow v Marple 2nd XI (ground availability issues), Marple 2nd XI v Chester Boughton Hall 2nd XI (Chester unable to fulfil fixture on original date), Lindow v Chester 2nd XI (Chester unable to fulfil fixture on original date), two matches Chester 2nd XI v Marple 2nd XI (Marple unable to fulfil fixtures on last arranged dates), Marple 2nd XI v Heaton Mersey/Cheadle (weather conditions) T20 Western Division: Wistaston v Appleton (weather conditions) T20 Eastern Division: Marple v Woodley, Trinity v Marple, Didsbury v Georgians (all weather conditions) Knockout Plate: Woodley v Upton Please advise of any re-arrangements, or if any of these will not be re-arranged.

In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

  • Glenn Takes Four but Last ODI Washed Out
Sarah Glenn has impressed in Malaysia. Photo: Malaysian Cricket Association Dec 14, 2019 09:48 GMT Glenn Takes Four But Last ODI Washed Out SCORECARD Sarah Glenn took four wickets but England's hopes of a series whitewash in Malaysia were dashed by rain, with the third ODI abandoned after just 37 overs. Glenn's fine spell had swung the game back towards England after an impressive start by the Pakistani openers, and the hosts had fallen from 96/0 to 145/8 when the rain came. Along with centuries for Danni Wyatt, Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver, Glenn's form has probably been England's find of the tour. The young Worcestershire leg-spinner has taken eight wickets at just 11.62. Sussex's Freya Davies was presented with her ODI cap before the game, becoming the 130th person to represent England Women in ODI cricket. Captain Heather Knight - who made her 100th cap in Thursday's second ODI - was awarded Player of the Series. Attention now turns to the T20 series - which gets underway on Tuesday December 17. It represents England's final three games in the shortest form before selection for February's ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Australia. All three games will be live-streamed on the Pakistan Cricket Board's YouTube channel. QUOTES Sarah Glenn: “I was really happy to get four wickets today, but it’s a shame the rain came and the game had to be abandoned. “We came back really well with the ball after Pakistan had started on top.

Victoria batted first with player-of-the-match Catherine Fitzpatrick top scoring with 42 runs off 30 balls (1 six, 4 fours). She was supported by Sarah Edwards 37 (32 balls, 1 four) and Rachael Haynes 25 (31 balls, 3 fours). Vic Spirit’s Clea Smith was the only multiple wicket taker of the match with figures of 2/19 off four overs. Although she went wicketless Vic Spirit’s Catherine Fitzpatrick, was the most economical bowler of the match conceding only 14 runs from her four overs. It was the tight bowling by the Victorians that contained the New South Wales batters and won the match. In November 2007 a series of five matches were played as part of a women’s interstate T20 tournament. Each state played two matches but no final was programmed. The participating teams were New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. In the 2008/09 season the women’s domestic T20 competition was expanded with two tournaments being staged. The Women’s Interstate T20 tournament consisted of a series of five matches played by the same states that had played the previous season.
