JUBILATE DEO MASS SETTING Sunday School In 1974, Paul VI published the End of Year booklet, , which included a collection of some of the simplest chants of the Roman Parish Potluck . The booklet was forwarded to every bishop and diocese in the world to be employed as a

“minimum repertoire of Gregorian chant” with the following instructions: “...decide on the best ways of

teaching the faithful the Latin chants of Jubilate Deo and of having them sing them…. You will thus be performing a

new service for the Church in the domain of liturgical renewal.” Sunday, May 21 Pope Paul VI stated that it would “...make it easier for Sunday Forum: Christians to achieve unity and spiritual harmony...and with the living tradition of the past. Hence it is that those who 10:30 AM, UCDS - TEC are trying to improve the quality of congregational singing 100 Years After Fatima: Developing Personal cannot refuse Gregorian chant the place which is due to it.” Devotion to Mary (Presenter: Sarah Striz) (Voluntati Obsequens).

MARIAN ANTIPHONS As we approach the month of May (dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary) our music ministers will begin introducing our parishioners to the four glorious antiphons dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Can you name all four antiphons?

The first antiphon, the , will be sung during the Easter Season as it proclaims victory of our Risen Savior and calls the Blessed Virgin Mary to “REJOICE!” The antiphon is complete with several glorious “Alleluias” citing the JOY of the Season.

Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia; quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia; resurrexit sicut dixit, alleluia; ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia; for He whom thou was chosen to bear, alleluia; has risen as He said, alleluia; pray for us to God, alleluia.

The text is believed to have originated with Pope Gregory V and was united with its chant melody sometime later in the 1400s. Follow this link to listen to an audio file of the Regina Caeli. https://youtu.be/6-EJiI_yAas
