1 Oct. 29, 1996 - Morston, TX 2 3 SIRENICIDE 4 ME25 – “Scary’s On the Wall” 5 6 *Open Scene 7 8 Layne Laughlin and Jerry Laughlin are sitting around a cheap wooden coffee table. 9 They are in the living room of Jerry’s trailer park rental and the TV plays an old 10 western in the background. Bags of heroine are being unwrapped by Layne as they 11 laugh about a girl that Jerry just broke up with earlier in the night. Jerry takes a 12 quick swig from his cheap light beer. *SFX 13 14 Jerry Laughlin 15 Laughing under his smoky breath, cigarette in his mouth: 16 “Man, fuck that bitch. She just saw me as trailer trash anyway. I don’t care though. 17 She’s just another dirty junkhead blonde on my list.” 18 19 Jerry blows out the last puff of his cigarette into the air and fans it away with his 20 hand as Layne starts separating the heroine. Then Jerry puts the cigarette out.*SFX 21 22 Layne Laughlin 23 Dismissing that comment as he concentrates: 24 “Is that how you justify it?” 25 26 Jerry picks up and shakes his now empty beer bottle and sets it disappointedly back 27 on the table. He then leans over, opening a cheap ice chest and pulling another beer 28 out. *SFX 29 30 Jerry Laughlin 31 Says, insulted, while looking for the bottle opener: 32 “Yeah, Layne, it is.” 33 34 Jerry digs in the couch cushion and finds the bottle opener. *SFX 35 36 Jerry Laughlin 37 Says, getting a little pissed at his brother: 38 “It’s not like I asked her to go blow Kurt for this shit. She did that on her own.” 39 40 Jerry pops open the bottle, takes a fast, heavy swig, and sets it back down. *SFX 41 42 Layne Laughlin 43 Irritated at how quickly his brother is going through the beer: 44 “Jesus, Jerry, save some of those for the rest of the night, dude. Fuck.” 45 46 Jerry Laughlin 47 Blows that comment off and tries to liven up the mood: 48 “There’s plenty for both of us, dick. You should have one and chill the fuck out. But, no, 49 no. You can’t separate that H quick enough. You should really slow down on that shit, 50 dude, and I’m only saying that as loving brother.” 51 52 Layne Laughlin 53 Finally grinning: 54 “Just open up one for me, bitch.” 55 56 Jerry leans over, opening the cheap ice chest again and pulling another beer out. 57 Jerry pops open the bottle and slides it over to his brother. *SFX 58 59 Layne Laughlin 60 Looking over at his brother. Asks slightly confused: 61 “What did she get from Kurt by doing that anyway?” 62 63 Layne picks up the beer, takes a quick swig, and sets the bottle down. *SFX 64 65 Jerry Laughlin 66 Almost ashamed: 67 “…Voz.” 68 69 Layne Laughlin 70 Shocked! 71 “Voz! Are you fuck’n for real, Jerry? You wanna talk about me shooting heroine? Give 72 me a break, dude.” 73 74 Jerry Laughlin 75 Looking over at his brother. Asks slightly confused and then apologizes: 76 “Layne, that’s why I wanted to you be here, man. I trust you, brother. Courtney was a 77 cunt earlier, dude. She was gonna walk us through it. She has been there before, so I 78 figured that’d help. I’m sorry she ran off with your money.” 79 80 Layne Laughlin 81 Curious: 82 “Fuck her, dude, but if I knew that’s what she was gonna from buy from Kurt, I 83 wouldn’t have loaned you the dough. When you said, “She’ll get us some exclusive shit,” 84 I thought you meant like Moonrock, H-Bomb, or even Snowball - but Voz? I don’t know 85 man, that’s some scary shit. (Deep breath) So, what did she see when she did it?” 86 87 *Time shift to the Next Scene (Trippy Acid Time Lapse Cue) 88 Echos of the dead can be heard all around Layne as he awakens in his brother’s 89 trailer. The lights are all off and the TV is now just rolling static. Blood is dripping 90 from the ceiling and some drops land on his face, letting him know that this is not a 91 dream. *SFX 92 Layne Laughlin 93 Lost: 94 “The hell? Is this blood?” 95 96 Layne rises from the couch and steps on the sponge wet carpet. *SFX 97 98 Layne Laughlin 99 Grossed out: 100 “Ew, gross! The carpet's soaked with the same blood. Oh my god, look how red it is 101 outside too. It looks like blood and fire mixed together and made the night sky. Hmm… 102 Oh shit, where is Jerry?” 103 104 Layne walks on the spongy carpet toward the hallway. *SFX 105 106 Layne Laughlin 107 Lost: 108 “I see a glow at the end of the hall. Jerry! Are you in your room? Jerry?” 109 110 As he slowly walks down the blood-filled hallway, he looks to the right-side hallway 111 window and sees a robed figure loading human carcasses into an old wooden cart, 112 except the bodies are reaching out in pain as he stacks them on top off each other. 113 The man loading the bodies is yelling at the top of his lungs. *SFX 114 115 Creepy Cart Man 116 Yelling! 117 “Scary’s on his way! Don’t get hit! The time is nigh! Scary’s on his way! Don’t get hit! 118 The time is nigh! Scary’s on his way! Don’t get hit! The time is nigh! Scary’s on his way! 119 Don’t get hit! The time is nigh! Scary’s on his way! Don’t get hit! The time is nigh! 120 Scary’s on his way! Don’t get hit! The time is nigh!” 121 122 Layne Laughlin 123 Scared, but curious: 124 “This Voz shit is for real. I knew people said it would take you to the land of the dead, 125 but I didn’t think the hallucinogenic properties would be this intense. This feels and 126 smells like a real place. I wonder...” 127 128 Layne slaps the glass of the small window. *SFX 129 130 Layne Laughlin 131 Yelling, then laughing: 132 “Hey, fuckface! Shut it! I’m trying to enjoy my high and you're bringing me down! Stop 133 yell’n that shit!” 134 (Stoner laughing then stopping in horror when the cart guy looks over.) 135 136 The cart man drops the body he’s holding and stops yelling to look at Layne. *SFX 137 138 Layne Laughlin 139 Very scared: 140 “Oh shit, he sees me? Fuck! What the hell is this drug doing to me?” 141 142 Layne ducks down under the hallway window to hide. His crouching weight can be 143 heard on the bloody carpet. *SFX 144 145 Creepy Cart Man 146 Yelling at Layne: 147 “You shoulda known better boy! I see you! So does she! The writing is on the wall! 148 Scary’s on the wall! You hear me boy! You can’t hide here! She is everywhere! Ya hear 149 me! Death is all around you! Don’t! Get! Hit!” 150 151 All at once, an explosion of glass hits above Layne and a wicked wind howls in. *SFX 152 153 Layne Laughlin 154 Cries out in pain: 155 “Oh shit, shit, shit, shit!” 156 157 The sounds of hands wrapping around the crushed window seal can be heard as the 158 cart worker peeks his face into the trailer, just his eyes looking down as his body 159 dangles. The sound of the cart worker’s legs moving against the tin of the outside of 160 the mobile home can heard as he speaks. 161 162 Creepy Cart Man 163 Wickedly whispers: 164 “Scary’s on the wall. You could be too. She would love to have you both.” 165 166 Layne jumps to his feet and runs towards the glowing door, all on wet carpet. *SFX 167 168 Layne Laughlin 169 In terror as he runs! 170 “Jerry! There is some creep coming through the window! Let me in!” 171 172 Layne reaches the door and frantically jiggles the handle as the Creep finishes 173 sliding through the broken glass window, plopping down on the wet carpet and 174 broken glass. *SFX 175 176 Creepy Cart Man 177 Wickedly whispers: 178 “Scary’s on the wall. I’d wait until it’s over. She’s in there with him. Come help me, Mr. 179 Laughlin. Let’s feed the muddy sewer. Together.” 180 181 Layne starts slamming his fist on the wet wooden door as the Creep starts inching 182 his way closer. *SFX 183 184 Layne Laughlin 185 In terror, bangs on the door! 186 “Jerry! Jerry! MAN, open up!” 187 188 The Creep still walks closer as Layne cries in fear! *SFX 189 190 Creepy Cart Man 191 Wickedly whispers: 192 “Feed my eyes! Feed My Eyes! Feed My Eyes!” 193 194 Layne Laughlin 195 In terror, bangs on the door! 196 “Jerry! Help! Stay away from me, you creep! Jerry!” 197 198 Creepy Cart Man 199 Wickedly whispers: 200 “I stay away, but from her. For she holds Scary and wants you have.” 201 202 All at once the door unlocks and the Creep disappears. *SFX (End Music) 203 204 Layne Laughlin 205 Calmer but still in shock: 206 “The hell? He disappeared. And the window is all back in one piece. This is fucked up.” 207 208 Layne opens the door to his brother’s room. The wet carpet sounds continue. *SFX 209 210 Layne Laughlin 211 Lost: 212 “Jerry?” 213 214 Layne slowly walks up to Jerry, who is pinned to the wall in Christ pose with large 215 pieces of glass holding him in place. Tumors are bulging all over on his body. The 216 carpet is still wet. Layne comes to a stop in shock as the door automatically slams 217 shut. The room goes black except for the red light on Jerry. *SFX 218 219 Layne Laughlin 220 Lost and shaking: 221 “Jerry, can you hear me? …Oh my God. How did you get like this?” 222 223 (Music Cue Effect and Change/Start) * 224 225 Vozlyn 226 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 227 “Your God has no dominion here, child. So you better start praying to me.” 228 229 230 Layne Laughlin 231 Lost and shaking: 232 “What? Who are you?” 233 234 Vozlyn reaches over and clicks on a lamp, revealing herself. *SFX 235 236 Layne Laughlin 237 Dumbfounded: 238 “Wah! Woah. You - You are beauti…” 239 240 Vozlyn 241 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 242 “Beautiful. So I have been told. But let's look at the reality of the situation. I’m gonna 243 give you a choice. Ok? You have taken the nectar of a god, but it’s the God of Scary, or 244 Death, as your world calls it. So here’s the deal, darling: you will have to bury your 245 brother or take another hit and give them bones you have there… to me?” 246 247 Layne Laughlin 248 Lost and shaking of the daze to worry: 249 “What? I don’t understand (Shaking her spell off) …And what is wrong with my 250 brother? Why is he splayed on wall like that? Like Jesus Christ. What’s with those 251 tumors all over him? Are those glass shards in his feet and hands holding him up? 252 Fuck! What happened to his eyes? Please help me get him down! 253 254 Vozlyn 255 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 256 “Scary has many faces, Layne. What you see here is that my cancer has claimed your 257 brother, but you can take his place on my wall. Just take another hit. After all, only one 258 of you can return to the Midland.” 259 260 Layne Laughlin 261 Lost and shaking: 262 “Oh, Jerry! Come on, speak to me man! This has got to be a bad dream or something!” 263 264 Vozlyn 265 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 266 “There are no dreams in this place, darling. His drug of choice ruptured his sight here, 267 but I’ll take them bones you have on and he’ll be free again to live in the Midland, if you 268 so choose. What’d ya say, Doctor?” 269 270 Layne Laughlin 271 Frantically angry: 272 “I’m not a doctor, dammit! Let my brother go! I honestly don’t understand a fucking 273 thing going on in this place! This is one fucked up trip! A really bad, bad one!” 274 275 276 Vozlyn 277 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 278 “Settle down and tell me about your confusion, darling. Maybe I can clear it up for 279 you?” 280 281 Layne Laughlin 282 Takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and recounts. Fighting back anger as he does: 283 “I knew people said they had seen the dead when they took Voz, but I feel like I have 284 died and gone to hell. I keep telling myself this isn’t real and that I’m in a dream, but 285 the smell in the air makes me wanna vomit. I haven’t ever felt pain in a dream that I 286 can remember, but I have here and I still have all my memories! This... well this, it feels 287 like I’m still conscious. But I can’t be! I mean that Creep was hauling around bodies 288 earlier out there among all that mud, blood, and bile. Then he busted the trailer 289 hallway window and slithered in like an inhuman serpent, slowly chasing me, but once 290 this door opened… he vanished. The creepy man did say you hold “Scary”? And you said 291 Scary is death. So I think even though you're half-naked, lying in a bloody version of my 292 brother’s earthly bed and appearing as the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, I 293 think the Creep was right to stay away from you. Now, I am scared there is no saving 294 me from this. You look like a giant human-sized fairy or something, but I see small 295 glowing purple horns in your hair. So I can’t honestly believe that I’m awake!” 296 297 Vozlyn stands up, showing she is fully nude, and walks over, resting her hand on 298 Jerry’s pinned up body. She touches his tumor-lined bloody flesh and Jerry shivers 299 for few seconds from her touch. *SFX 300 301 Vozlyn 302 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 303 “Well, now you can see that I’m not just half-naked, and you said “earthly bed” so you 304 are from a time long ago in your realm. That is very odd. Well, I am Vozlyn, my dear, a 305 Goddess of Death, if that helps clear some of this up. And Death, well, he is all around 306 us, ok? Time has no bearing in The Dead Realm, but again, you’re very much awake, I 307 promise. The man earlier is a collector of flesh, but I am the Queen of Bones. Do you 308 want to feel my bones Dr. Laughlin… I’m sorry - Mr. Laughlin. You may, if you want to. 309 After all, this is not Hell, darling. The Destructors know nothing of pleasure nor flesh 310 and bone, not like I do.” 311 312 Vozlyn extends her small, beautiful, silky wings with her hands. *SFX 313 314 Layne Laughlin 315 Dumbfounded: 316 “Oh lord, you have wings? Is this heaven? Did Jerry and I die?” 317 318 Vozlyn 319 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 320 “No, Layne darling. This isn’t heaven, hell, or your earth. This is Scary. And neither you 321 nor Jerry are dying. Not yet anyway. (Small playful chuckle) 322 Jerry groans in agony. *SFX 323 Vozlyn 324 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 325 That choice is yours. My cancer has started its work on him, but again, you can take his 326 place. Come feel my embrace… or bury Jerry?” 327 328 Layne Laughlin 329 Lost, worried, and scared: 330 “Cancer? Jerry doesn’t have cancer! Please Voslyn, I’m so fucking lost here. My body 331 wants to join you, but I can’t kill myself like this. I just can’t!” 332 333 Vozlyn 334 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 335 “You would be the first mortal man to ever say no to me. Your brother didn’t and I’m 336 allowing you to save him.” 337 338 Layne walks over to Vozlyn and touches her face. *SFX 339 340 Layne Laughlin 341 Shocked: 342 “Wow, you are real.” 343 344 Vozlyn 345 In a dark silky yet alluring tone: 346 “Indeed I am, darling. So, are you gonna touch on more than my face?” 347 348 Layne drops his hand from her, turns, and places it on Jerry instead. *SFX 349 350 Layne Laughlin 351 Suddenly determined: 352 “No. Jerry made his choice. I will not be consumed by you too.” 353 354 Vozlyn 355 Shocked but wickedly threatening: 356 “Well, a deal is deal. You get to keep your life, but it will not be the same. You will now 357 see my viruses, my diseases, and my cancer in all your earthly life. I am Scary and you 358 can’t save them from me. There is no antidote for fear and there is no cure for death.” 359 360 Layne Laughlin 361 Suddenly determined: 362 “Not yet there isn’t.” 363 364 Vozlyn reaches out and puts a hand on Layne and then one on Jerry. Then Jerry 365 starts hyperventilating as his bones break through his flesh. Layne starts to drift and 366 Jerry’s screams echo in time at Layne passes out. *SFX 367 368 *Time shift to the Next Scene (Trippy Acid Time Lapse Cue) 369 370 Layne awakens in Jerry’s trailer park rental and the TV rambles on in the 371 background with the old western playing as if he’s only be out for a few minutes. 372 Suddenly remembering everything at once, he runs down the hall to Jerry’s room 373 throwing the cheap door wide open. *SFX 374 375 Layne Laughlin 376 Devastated: 377 “Fuck! No, no, no, Jerry!” 378 379 END
