2018Media Football Guide 2018 UCO Football Media Guide Broncho Football History • UCO ranks fifth among NCAA Division II teams in all-time wins (627). • The Bronchos have made 10 playoff appearances and captured two national champi- onships (1962 and ‘82). • UCO has won 32 conference/division titles. • 78 All-Americans a combined 122 times • 406 All-Conference players a combined 554 times. • UCO ranks second among all Oklahoma colleges and universities in all-time wins. • The Bronchos have won seven or more games in a season 42 times. • UCO has had nine Harlon Hill Trophy candidates (Division II Player of the Year): RB Tyrone Jones (1992), RB Joe Aska (1994), RB Reggie Donner (1998), DB Johnnie Jones (1999), WR Dee Dee Carter (2001), QB Justin Allgood (2004), RB Joshua Bir- mingham (2010), WR Marquez Clark (2013), and WR J.T. September 6 Thursday Nebraska-Kearney* EDMOND 7 p.m. UCO, leading the series 5-2, hosts UNK for the second year in a row and looks to win for the second year in a row. September 15 Saturday Lindenwood* St. Charles, Mo. 7 p.m. The Bronchos topped Lindenwood in the 2017 season opener in Edmond. Central leads the series 3-2. September 22 Saturday Northwest Missouri* EDMOND 6 p.m. The Bronchos host Northwest Missouri looking to beat the Bearcats for the first time since 1992. September 29 Saturday Fort Hays State* Hays, Kan. 7 p.m. UCO visits the defending conference champs looking to improve its 7-4 series record. October 6 Saturday Central Missouri (Homecoming)* EDMOND 2 p.m. Central Oklahoma beat Central Missouri for the first time in six tries last season in Edmond. October 13 Saturday Missouri Western* St. Joseph, Mo. 1 p.m. UCO lost four games last season by one possession, including at MWSU, which leads the series 6-2. October 20 Saturday Washburn* EDMOND 2 p.m. The Bronchos host Washburn with a 4-3 series lead thanks to a win in Topeka last season. October 27 Saturday Missouri Southern* Joplin, Mo. 2 p.m. Central visits Missouri Southern for a second straight season. The Bronchos hold a 4-2 series lead. November 3 Saturday Northeastern State* Tahlequah, Okla. 3 p.m. The President’s Cup will be won in Tahlequah for second straight year. UCO has won the last four meetings. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO National Affiliation:NCAA Division II football coach C.W. Wantland. The name was chosen from Conference: Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association a number of suggestions for the name of UCO’s football team Nickname: Bronchos and became the nickname for all athletic teams at the school. School Colors: Bronze & Blue Mrs. Wantland was made an honorary member of the Let- Enrollment: 16,000 terman’s Club for selecting the nickname, becoming the first Stadium (Capacity): Wantland Stadium (10,000) woman admitted to that organization. Playing Surface: FieldTurf SCHOOL COLORS Bronze and blue were chosen as UCO’s school colors in 1895 by school president Edmund Dandridge Murdaugh.
