Governor’s Residence Preservation Fund

Annual Report 2011 - The mansion’s beautifulLetter landscapes, from ornatethe Governorarchitecture and exquisite furnishings really are a treasure to be shared with our citizens and visitors from around the state, the nation, and the world.

Over the last year we have become more familiar with the mansion through the many official functions we have hosted, ranging from quarterly retreats with my cabinet members, weekly gatherings with state legislators—and many, many dinner parties—to the fall garden party and winter holiday open house, and even an event with the artist Cristo. The Preservation Fund’s on-going work to maintain the beauty of the Governor’s Residence makes those meetings and celebrations memorable for everyone, and is an important part of my job as Governor.

It is also a great pleasure when we are able to show the mansion personally to family and friends. I expect some of those memories will be ones that will stay with us through the years. Last year we had a glorious Thanksgiving dinner while the house was fully decorated for the holidays, and we managed not to break any of the beautiful ornaments. Helen came up with the idea of focusing on various ethnic holiday traditions and the house was decorated with donated items from a host of different cultures, including Italian, Greek, Native American, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, and Swedish, among others, as well as a variety of faiths—including Christian, Jewish, and Muslim.

It is the critical work of the Governor’s Residence Preservation Fund that keeps ’s Home the treasure it is today. I urge you to lend your enthusiastic support to preserving this unique piece of our civic heritage.
