Manufacturing remains incredibly important to both the developing and the advanced world. It continues to provide a pathway from subsistence agriculture to rising incomes and living standards. And…remains a vital source of innovation and competitiveness, making outsized contributions to research and development, exports, and productivity growth.

Neither business leaders nor policy makers can rely on old responses in the new manufacturing environment …. Missouri’s economy had another great year in 2017. According to the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri saw 61 major expansions totaling more $1 billion in capital investment, and creating more than 5,800 new jobs across the state.

Springfield, Missouri, was recently ranked the 16th best large city in the U.S. to start a business, according to WalletHub. The Missouri city ranked number one overall in best business costs.

According to USA Today’s “10 Best”, Missouri is home to the best aquarium, zoo, and one of the top botanical gardens in . Wonders of Wildlife, located in Springfield, Missouri, was named the “2018 Best Aquarium”, and was highlighted for its 1.5 miles of immersive galleries featuring 4D dioramas and a new 1.5-million-gallon aquarium. Job Growth Continues: The unemployment rate dropped to 3.9% in April 2018 – the lowest rate in nearly 18 years. Missouri was at 3.7% in Feb. 2018 Largest number being ages 35-54 years

Adult Women Had Their Lowest Unemployment Rate Since December 2000: The unemployment rate for adult women (20 years and over) fell to 3.5 percent in April 2018. The unemployment rate for Hispanics fell to 4.8 percent in April 2018.

900,000 Americans ages 25-54 have joined the labor force since President Trump was elected in 2016. The unemployment rate for African Americans fell to 6.6 percent in April 2018. This was the second time the unemployment rate for African Americans hit a new record low under President Trump.
