ART AND NATURE COME TOGETHER WITH RAINFOREST-THEMED CURATION AT ‘COLOURS OF THE FOREST’ Over 400 residents promote biodiversity awareness at Taman PAssionArts Festival

1 ‘Colours of the Forest’ @ Taman Jurong CC, part of the PAssionArts Festival 2018, will bring more vibrancy, fun and heart-warming aspirations this year through many amazing rainforest-themed co-creative efforts. This Art Village is centred on a large visual art of a hidden rainforest of flowers, streams and “living animals”, co-created by beneficiaries spanning from “youths at risk”, low income and single parent families to seniors, as well as residents of Taman Jurong and notable local artists

2 Organised by the Taman Jurong Community Arts & Culture Club, the Art Village spotlights nature’s biodiversity and inclusive messages inspired art installations that have been co-created by 400 residents and artists. Adviser Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will officiate at the ‘Colours of the Forest’ PAssionArts Festival 2018 at Taman Jurong CC on Saturday, 7 July, from 5.30pm to 9.00pm.

3 ‘Colours of the Forest’ @ Taman Jurong CC creates opportunities for young families to bond with their children and where local artists work with various Volunteer Welfare Organisations (VWOs) to create heart-warming artworks. Activities will feature highlights such as:

a) Dreamer in the Night Forest: These LED-lighted art sculptures were co- created with over 50 beneficiaries through pre-festival workshops at these VWOs – Tasek Jurong’s first THK Seniors Services @ Taman Jurong, NTUC SilverAce (Taman Jurong) and Tasek Jurong. (Reaching out to “youths at risk”, low income and single parent families.) Led by notable local artist Tay Swee Siong, some of the participants are as young as 7 years old and the oldest is 90 years old.

b) Fun Drawing with Your Letter Sign: Led by social enterprise Deaf ArtsCraftsy, residents learn how to sign their name/initials in sign language and design their fingerspelling alphabet card. This project is run by hearing-impaired facilitators.

c) The Hidden Rainforest: In the Sky Art installation, residents co-created birds, flowers and leaves strung together to form a flowing ‘curtain’ of dazzling colours, with the accompaniment of a ‘waterfall’. In the Pillar Art installations, the Taman Jurong CC foyer is transformed into a forest-like scene with uniquely created mushroom, tree stump and forest creatures.

5 Photo opportunities will include several music and art performances with hands-on workshop stations featuring many exciting artforms that will showcase co- created art experiences:

a) Performance Art: Exciting stories about forest adventures as narrated by “everyday” parents (guided by a professional storyteller) to other young families.

b) Music and Dance Theatre: Experience the intense beauty of a forest through music and dance – The Lamplighters – by professional theatre group Arts Fission and seniors from the NTUC SilverACE (Taman Jurong) where the oldest performer is 85 years old and is performing for the first time.

c) Art-Jamming Booths: Organised by students from Fuhua Secondary School, watch residents take part in flora-and-fauna themed Stained Glass Painting and Mono-printing, a form of print-making.
