Corporate Buzz  SpiceJet is likely to join the global airlines' grouping the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as a member. The grouping has a membership of around 290 airlines that represent about 82 % of total air traffic.  ONGC: The board meeting is scheduled on December 20 to consider the proposal for buyback of the fully paid-up equity shares of the company. The Government of India held 67.48 % shareholding in ONGC as of September 2018.  BEML has pitched for indigenisation of at least six rakes of bullet train coaches in collaboration with its Japanese partner Hitachi. However, in joint negotiation meetings, Hitachi had indicated that if the project has to meet its rollout deadline of 2023, then indigenisation of not more than one bullet train rake could be possible.

However, this order could have a bearing on IHH’s proposed open offer to acquire additional 26% stake in Fortis. The open offer is scheduled to be launched from December 18 to January 1, 2019.  The Government has proposed to merge three public sector general insurance companies -- National Insurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company and United India Insurance Company. As on March 31, 2017, the three companies together had more than 200 insurance products with a total premium of INR 414.61bn and a market share of around 35 %.  ABB Ltd. is nearing an agreement to sell about 80 % of its power-grids unit to Hitachi Ltd. in a deal that would value the entire business at about USD 11 bn. Global Commentary  The major European markets also moved to the downside on the day. While the French CAC 40 Index slumped by 0.9 %, the U.K.'s FTSE 100 Index and the German DAX Index both fell by 0.5 %.  Stock Markets across the Asia-Pacific region moved notably lower during trading. Japan's Nikkei 225 Index plunged by 2 %, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index tumbled by 1.6 %.  The Dow rose 70.11 points or 0.3% to 24,597.38, the Nasdaq fell 27.98 points or 0.4% to 7,070.33 and the S&P 500 edged down 0.53 points or less than a tenth of a% to 2,650.54. Global Macro  Average prices of new homes in 70 Chinese cities rose by 9.3 %YoY in November of 2018, accelerating from a 8.6 % rise in the previous month.  Business inventories in the United States increased 0.6 % MoM in October of 2018, following an upwardly revised 0.5 % rise in September and in line with market expectations.  The IHS Markit US Composite PMI dropped to 53.6 in December 2018 from 54.7 in the previous month, a preliminary estimate showed. Outlook  Benchmark indices are likely to open on a positive note.
