From The Director: Auditions for the Readington Community Theatre's production of Mel Brooks': THE PRODUCERS will take place on Monday, January 8th from 6:30 - 9:30 pm and Sunday January 14th from 2-5 pm at the Polish American Citizen's Club in Whitehouse Station, NJ.
We are casting for 5 Male leads and 1 female lead, plus 6-8 male and 6-8 female additional roles. Auditions will involve reading parts and singing songs from the show, although we will also hear prepared songs and monologues. There may be some dancing/movement components to the audition as well.
The show itself will run 4/27,4/28 4/29, 5/4,5/5 and 5/6. Rehearsals are likely to begin shortly after auditions, and are likely to take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
Our auditions are open to all, regardless of experience!
We are often asked how auditions are run at RCTNJ. While the experience will differ based on the director, here are some things to keep in mind:
- You may be asked to read from the script. For some productions, you may preregister via email and declare the roles you are interested in. You will then receive some excerpts from the script prior to auditions. The audition still may require you to read material from the script that was not provided prior. Tip: It is sometimes possible to find scripts at the public library.
- You may be asked to prepare a monologue
- You will be asked to sing if auditioning for a musical. The musical director will teach you the piece and ask you to sing it accompanied by piano. If you wish to prepare 16 bars of a song, you may also sing that.
- There may be minor choreography involved, so please dress appropriately.
- Upon arrival, you will be asked to fill out an audition sheet. This provides the Theatre some basic information about you and your experience. It also lets us know your schedule conflicts and roles you are interested in. You may also download the file here, and email it to [email protected] to pre-register.
- Our rehearsal period is typically 2 to 3 months, depending on the complexity of the show. Rehearsal schedules vary, but normally include 2 week nights (for about 2 to 3 hours) and 1 weekend day (for about 4 to 5 hours.)
- Our performances generally run 2 full weekends, with 8:00 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday and a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
- There may be minor choreography involved, so please dress appropriately.

Audition Tips:
We are always happy to audition and add new talent to our productions. Come with an open mind and a positive attitude. It is always better to be willing to audition for multiple roles, as our production team may see you as a fit for something you didn't think of.
- Arrive On Time. We like to start our rehearsals right on time, so auditions is your chance to show us that timeliness won't be a problem for you. Depending on the turnout, auditions can take a while (and we know everyone's time is important) so we like to get started right on time.
- No Apologies! We know auditioning isn't easy, and we appreciate you giving it your all. If you weren't happy with how you read something, don't apologize. You will have plenty of opportunities to read for the role.
- Come ready to perform and own the room. We love to see that actors have prepared for the role. They understand the plot and the character (s) they are auditioning for. They do more than just read. They move around, interact with other actors, and really perform for us.
