As at August 2013 Killisick has the highest proportion of individuals claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance. All three are higher than the Nottinghamshire, and UK levels. There was a significant increase in the proportion in Netherfield and Colwick from 2.3% in July to 5.1% in August 2013.

Killisick has a significantly higher proportion of unemployed youngsters with 8.4% of its population in this age group claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance in August 2013. The national level for this age group is 6.10%, only Newstead has levels lower than this at 5.7%.

In April, May and June 2013 Netherfield and Colwick (5.5% in June) and had one of the highest levels of NEETs in the Borough- significantly higher than the County level of 3.9%.

Killisick also had the highest level within the Borough over this period (standing at 9.1% in June) In July and August Killisick had the highest level of 16-18 year olds in this group. at 10.3% and 8.2% compared to a Nottinghamshire County average of 3.5% and 3.7% over the same period.

The figures are provided by Nottinghamshire County Council and they have flagged up a warning against the figure, there is a concern that within the Not Known category there will be a proportion of NEET young people. County are trying to address this within the resources at their disposal.

1 The Campaign to End Child Poverty published figures during early 2013 that provide a child poverty map of the whole of the UK. Nottingham North is ranked 18th place in the parliamentary constituencies for high child poverty rates in the UK where 37% of children were classed in poverty in 2012.

Within Gedling Borough, Killisick has the second highest level of child poverty at 36% within Nottinghamshire, only Ravensdale ward in has a higher level of poverty.
