September 2015 EXAMINATION F RESULTS SPECIAL O 2015 Foundation R AGM (with wine, canapés and useful workshops U for parents!) Thursday 24th September 2015 M 7.00pm FORUM EXAM RESULT SPECIAL

AM absolutely delighted to report that we I had yet another excellent summer with some “80% of grades were at A* of our best ever results at GCSE and great results to C ‐ our second best at A level. We were also delighted with the ever and much higher success of our students at AS level and the Year than the naonal 10 GCSE Statistics. The national papers once average.” again listed us as a highly performing school and we ranked very highly in the county.

Our A level results were fantastic and confirmed our position as of the most consistently top performing schools. 80% of the grades were A* to C ‐ our second best ever and much higher than the national average. 66 students achieved at least 2A grades and 20% achieved an A*. Our average total point score per student at 960 and average score per subject at 224 are very high and significantly above national averages.

There were many superb individual performances. Particular credit goes to Rachel Bellamy, Katie Hardingham and David Nunn who all achieved four A* grades and Raffi Thomas, Jigi Moudgil Joshi and Seth Marshall Tierney who achieved 3A*. A further 13 students achieved 2 A* grades. 10 students got places to Oxford, Cambridge and/or to read Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry.

As well as those gaining very high grades, we were equally pleased with the excellent performances from less able students who, whilst maybe not getting A and A* grades, exceeded their target grades and achieved the great individual results needed to secure Higher Education places. Many students this year were offered places by their first choice institution. Huge congratulations are due to all students for doing so well. A list of results and Higher Education destinations for all our Sixth Form students is shown on pages 4‐8.

The celebration of success was repeated a week later with the arrival of superb GCSE results. These were the best we’ve ever achieved and the second highest in Suffolk. I know that all parents of Year 11 students would agree that a great deal of effort had been put in by both the students and staff in preparing for the examinations. An excellent 72% achieved “The GCSE results were 5A* ‐ C including English and Maths. It was the best we’ve ever astonishing that one third of our students achieved achieved.” 5A*/A grades ‐ isn’t that brilliant?!

2 EXAM RESULT SPECIAL FORUM

We were particularly thrilled with “There were many performances at the top end, with an excellent superb individual 31% of grades at A/A*. We were very pleased performances, with an that the Maths results were the best in the excellent one third county for the second year running and we had a achieving 5A/A* grades 4% increase in English. It was equally pleasing to see many less able students, who had worked and a fantasc 31% of incredibly hard, secure the grades needed for grades at A/A*.” post‐16 courses.

The Year 12s taking AS exams appear to have done well and successfully handled the enormous pressure put on them to spend yet another summer taking exams, especially as they had not been able to take modules in January. We don’t put the results of these in this Forum as many of the students will take them on to A2 and many retake papers. Congratulations as well to Year 10 ‐ many of whom did very well in their Statistics and Core Science GCSE.

At the school we work incredibly hard to support our exam students and it’s great to see all their hard work pay off. This year we ran monitoring and mentoring schemes in both Year 12 and Year 13, as well as one‐year focused achievement groups. 260 students participated in the six long study days that we ran at Hallow Trees. In addition, we held revision days, coursework evenings, special classes and exam revision clubs for Years 10, 11, 12 and 13. Many of these were held in the holidays, at weekends and until late in the evening and I’m really grateful to all the staff for giving up so much time to help our students. There were breakfast sessions on the morning of exams with excellent attendance and also a lot of one‐to‐one teaching, cajoling and encouraging in all four exam year groups! I’d also like to thank all our parents for all you do to support and encourage all our students.

We wish all our students well with their studies as they progress to their next level.

Sue Hargadon Headteacher
