Rewilding Velebit is searching for an Enterprise Officer to develop their enterprise strategy which will contribute to the creation of a nature-based economy, conserve and rewild the Velebit Mountains, create new sources of income and deliver positive social impact in the local communities.

Rewilding Velebit is a conservation NGO with the mission to make a wilder place and conserve the wilderness of the Velebit Mountains. The Velebit Mountains is one of the finest and largest wilderness areas remaining in Europe and is home to an exciting variety of wildlife, including Balkan chamois, red deer, brown bear, and . Rewilding Velebit believes that the integration of business and nature conservation, and thus the creation of a nature-based economy, is central to achieving conservation success.

Rewilding Velebit was founded by Rewilding Europe and the Velebit Mountains is one of their rewilding areas. Rewilding Europe and Rewilding Velebit work in close collaboration. Rewilding Velebit’s Enterprise Officer will be a key member in the delivery of Rewilding Europe’s mission of making Europe a wilder place through strong and innovative enterprises and will work closely with the Rewilding Europe Enterprise team and the expanding network of Enterprise Officers located in rewilding areas across Europe.

The Enterprise Officer will have the opportunity to be a part of a great mission, determine an innovative strategy, work closely with a great team and deliver tangible conservation impact and benefits to the local communities in the Velebit Mountains.

POSITION SUMMARY

Rewilding Velebit’s Enterprise Officer will develop and implement the enterprise strategy by engaging with local businesses, landowners and stakeholders to sustain, expand and potentially finance the work of Rewilding Velebit. Their work will contribute to the development of a nature-based economy which will ultimately support the aims of Rewilding Velebit to create wildlife reserves, rewild forests and encourage open plains grazing.

The officer will work closely with the Rewilding Velebit team leader, rewilding officer as well as the local communities, and business owners and therefore a good understanding and knowledge of the Velebit Mountains is highly desirable, and the officer will preferably be based in Gospić, Senj, Zadar or its surroundings.

Outside Rewilding Velebit: 1. Rewilding Europe Enterprise team 2. Local entrepreneurs who could be part of the Rewilding Velebit’s Enterprise Strategy 3. Local community stakeholders, including local business representatives, landowners and authorities

RESPONSIBILITIES / SCOPE OF WORK • Creating a Landscape Business Plan for the project area of Rewilding Velebit. This plan should be conducted in discussion with local businesses, entrepreneurs and landowners and include analysis of:

o the current nature-based enterprises in the area and their connection with the rewilding actions; o support requirements for the local businesses; o opportunities for the development of new businesses, either by entrepreneurs or by Rewilding Velebit; o opportunities for collaboration between Rewilding Velebit and local enterprises; and o a feasibility assessment for the set-up of a “Rewilding Fund”, including contracts, governance, etc. • Based on the Landscape Business Plan, determine the Enterprise Strategy and work plan for Rewilding Velebit. Within the strategy, the Enterprise Officer will: o Identify local entrepreneurs who wish to establish businesses that could contribute to rewilding the Velebit Mountains; o Identify existing businesses or landowners who may be willing to adapt their practices to become more aligned to the rewilding mission; o Support local nature-based entrepreneurs / businesses with product development, training, sales & marketing, finance. The support may include assisting businesses with their applications to Rewilding Europe Capital for loan finance; o Develop detailed business plans for the Rewilding Fund and any other businesses / products that would be beneficial to the rewilding mission that could be developed by Rewilding Velebit. If these opportunities are attractive, the Enterprise Officer will establish the legal and financial set-up of these business opportunities including contracts, governance, etc; o Identify local businesses who could act as strategic or financial partners to Rewilding Velebit; o Identify and apply to funding sources to further support enterprise actions in the Velebit Mountains. • Preparation of technical and communication reports

OUTPUTS • A comprehensive Landscape Business Plan which comprises of an overview of businesses and opportunities in the project area. • A comprehensive list of business contacts in the area and their contact details. • An Enterprise Strategy and work plan for enterprise actions in the Velebit Mountains, including milestones and KPIs. • Supporting at least six entrepreneurs in the development of their business plans for opportunities in the area. • Support for at least two businesses in their applications to Rewilding Europe Capital. • Technical reports developed every month to be shared with Rewilding Velebit and Rewilding Europe about the actions undertaken to further the development of the Enterprise Strategy. • Communication reports developed every 1-2 months, which are shared with all parties involved in the enterprise actions in the Velebit Mountains to communicate any new developments.

QUALIFICATIONS • Master’s degree in business, Law, Tourism or Management • Experience in alternative tourism and/or business development and/or conservation • Experience in establishing their own business or for other clients • 5 years of business experience
