UCLA got its fi rst taste of defeat the following week at the UNLV Invitational, falling to Creighton, 3-2. Despite the loss, however, the Bruins showed a fi ghting spirit that would be a sign of things to come during the year. Down 3-0 with six minutes to play, UCLA mounted a comeback. A Richard Flores header cut the lead to 3-1 at 83:59, and Benny Feilhaber pulled UCLA to within one with a goal with 23 seconds to play, but time ran out on the Bruins’ comeback eff ort.
