Here I was subjected to French metric units and technical terms all the time. By the end of my stay I had learnt some useful French. When we were supplying Sauber with our F1 engines we had them rebuilt by a company in the French speaking part of Switzerland. I compiled a short lexicon of relevant words. These included camshaft, shim, con-rod, crankshaft, cam follower, with about 50 words in all.
