SOHN, Peter — Die Medizin des Zâdsparam. (Iranica 3). Verlag Otto Harrassowitz, Wiesbaden, 1996. (24 cm, XVI, 250). ISBN 3-447-3838-1. ISSN 0944-1271. DM 80,-. The shortest description of the content of this book is offered by its subtitle: “Anatomie, Physiologie und Psy- chologie in den Wizîdagîhâ î Zâdsparam, einer zoroastrisch- mittelpersischen Anthologie aus dem frühislamischen Iran des neunten Jahrhunderts”. As one learns from the intro- ductory presentation (pp. vii-viii) by the editor of the Iran- ica-series, Prof. Maria Macuch, the book in its present form is an updated text of its author's doctoral dissertation in Iran- ian Studies submitted to the Freie Universität Berlin in 1980. It was his second degree, because at that time he had already held a doctorate in medicine — a particularly useful “back- ground discipline” for studying the medical chapters (29-31, according to B.T. Anklesaria's Bombay edition of 1964) of the anthology in question. The most essential part of Dr Sohn's book consists of an introduction (pp. 1-47) and of the Pahlavi text of these chapters (pp. 50-140) in transliteration 937 BOEKBESPREKINGEN — IRAN 938
