Geneva Eagles 2011 Season In Review Week 9 2011 SEASON WAS MEMORABLE ON STEVENS BOULEVARD Friday, October 21, 2011 Nick Carter Stadium It could also be described as an incredibly frustrating one considering how Eastlake, Ohio close Coach George Burich’s talented North squad was to qualifying for 7:00 pm kickoff the Ohio High School Athletic Association postseason for the first time in the program’s history. Geneva Eagles 0 North Rangers 23 The campaign for the 2011 North Rangers started off with a record- breaking night on the ground in the August heat and ended with a record- breaking night on the ground in the mud in late October. The opening- night rushing theatrics - provided by Rangers senior running back Jordan Geneva 0 0 0 0 0 Morris’ 304 yards and 3 TDs - got the season off to rousing start with a win over highly touted Brush and sparked North to a 5-0 beginning for the fifth 3 7 6 7 North 23 time in school history and the third time in the last 38 years. 1st North Vrabec 27 FG 2nd North Josipovic 54 pass from Gresko (Bagliano kick) However, the Rangers hit a few bumps on the Premier Athletic Conference 3rd North Gresko 23 run (kick failed) road during the second half of the season, and the run into the record 4th North Holzheimer 20 pass from Gresko (Bagliano kick) books in the final game of the year was not accomplished by Morris, but rather by All-Ohioan Kareem Hunt of rival South. Hunt’s 485-yard, 6- game lifter the Rebels to a 45-26 victory and dropped the Rangers to 7-3 on the season. The win locked South in to the playoffs as the

The loss ended North’s bid for a first-ever spot in Week 11, and closed the career of record-setting quarterback George Gresko, Morris and a strong senior class. The Rangers finished 12th in Division I, Region 1 - four places South Rebels behind the eighth and final seed Cleveland JFK for a spot in the playoffs. Week 10 Thursday, October 27, 2011 Harry Winters Stadium The 2011 Rangers will forever be remembered as an exciting team to Willoughby, Ohio watch, both offensively and defensively. With good athletes and high- 7:00 pm kickoff energy playmakers on both sides of the ball, North won 7 games in a season for the first time since the early 1990s. The Rangers raced to a 5-0 North Rangers 26 start, scoring 193 points in those opening five victories - including PAC wins over Chardon and Riverside. South Rebels 45 A tough 27-20 loss on the road at Madison in Week 6 stopped the winning streak. Gresko played through a shoulder injury that would require off- North 0 6 14 6 26 season surgery and padded the passing records he had already owned at the school due in large part to an eye-popping junior season. The hurry-up, South 14 3 14 14 45 wide-open passing attack North utilizes not only allowed Gresko to pile up 1st South Hunt 69 run (Simenc kick) big numbers and Morris - when healthy - to keep defenses off balance, but South Hunt 15 run (Simenc kick) it provided the ideal situation for a breakout year for an underclassmen 2nd South Simenc 30 FG Burich and company will count heavily in 2012. North Josipovic 30 pass from Gresko (kick failed) 3rd South Hunt 20 run (Simenc kick) Wide receiver Ben Josipovic earned numerous postseason honors by North Holzheimer 69 pass from Gresko (Gresko run) catching 69 passes for 1,020 yards. Josipovic is expected to move to South Hunt 20 run (Simenc kick) North Holzheimer 10 pass from Gresko (kick failed) quarterback and take over the high-octane attack this fall. 4th South Hunt 43 run (Simenc kick) North Gresko 1 run (pass failed) Defensively, North posted shutouts over Lakeside in Week 7 and against South Hunt 80 run (Simenc kick) Geneva in Week 9. Seniors Brennan Torok, Jeremy Lemieux and Mike Frank and Kyle Holzheimer were among the standouts on the defensive side of the ball for the Rangers. The Class of 2012 set the bar high for future players at North on offense and defense, but Burich is confident in the youth system and in the student-athletes currently in the program. While there will be a lot of new faces this year after being hit hard by graduation, the goals on Stevens Boulevard do not change. Challenging for the PAC championship and that elusive Division I playoff berth is what all players and coaches wearing orange and black this season will be striving for. NORTH RANGERS
