Nouveau Manager des événements World Archery L’ancien champion britannique de tir à l’arc et manager de la compétition de tir à l’arc des Jeux Olymiques et Paralympiques de Londres 2012 Chris MARSH est le nouveau Manager des événements de World Archery dès janvier 2013. Chris MARSH a pratiqué le tir à l’arc durant plus de 20 ans. Ancien champion britannique et recordman national, il a également participé à l’organisation de nombreux événements, occupant les positions les plus diverses allant de bénévole à manager d’équipe. En 2004, en tant qu’entraîneur de l’équipe paralympique britannique, Chris MARSH a mené ses athlètes à deux médailles d’or aux Jeux d’Athènes et à la première place du classement des nations. Diplômé en marketing et économie, Chris MARSH a d’abord travaillé à Lucerne (Suisse) en tant que Directeur des ventes sur l’Europe de l’Est pour EF International Language Schools, avant de rejoindre le Comité d’Organisation des Jeux de Londres en juillet 2009. Après un repos bien mérite suite à ces Jeux très réussis, Chris MARSH est enchanté de rejoindre le bureau de World Archery et de contribuer à développer le tir à l’arc de par le monde. Chris MARSH fera partie de l’équipe des événements de World Archery et collaborera avec le directeur Juan Carlos HOLGADO, afin d’assurer le bon déroulement des compétitions et d’assister la production télévisée des événements. De plus, il apportera son soutien aux Comités locaux d’organisation, développera le Manuel des organisateurs d’événements et d’autres documents, et contribuera à la coordination et la présentation des séminaires pour organisateurs d’événements. E-séminaire sur les réseaux sociaux World Archery a organisé le 16 janvier 2013 un e-séminaire sur le thème “Réseaux sociaux: comment utiliser au mieux Facebook, Twitter et YouTube, pour les fédérations de tir à l’arc, les athlètes et les entraîneurs”. Ce séminaire destiné à tous ceux qui souhaitent promouvoir le tir à l’arc ou leurs activités en lien avec le sport a été un grand succès avec près de 40 participants. La présentation, donnée par Teresa IACONI, administratrice des réseaux sociaux de USA Archery et World Archery. La popularité appelle une audience croissante, et le tir à l’arc génère plus d’intérêt que jamais. C’est le moment idéal, en tant que fédérations et en tant qu’athlètes, pour entrer en contact avec les fans du monde entier par le biais des réseaux sociaux, à les inciter à s’intéresser à notre sport et à l’essayer, ce qui peut également attirer les médias et peut-être même des sponsors. Janvier 2013 World Archery Newsletter Page 3 Danielle BROWN devient Membre de l’Empire Britannique La championne paralympique et vice-championne de la dernière Coupe du Monde Danielle BROWN a été nommée Membre de l’Empire Britannique à Nouvel An. Ce titre fait partie des distinctions les plus hautes décernées par la Reine d’Angleterre deux fois par année. A 24 ans, Danielle BROWN a remporté sa deuxième médaille d’or paralympique en arc à poulies à Londres par une victoire en finale sur sa compatriote Mel CLARKE. Elle est également triple champione du monde handisport depuis 2007. La Britannique n’est pas seulement la meilleure athlète paralympique d’arc à poulies, elle fait partie des 10 meilleures mondiales de la catégorie valide. Elle l’a prouvé quand elle est devenue vice-championne de la Finale de Coupe du Monde 2012 à Tokyo. Danielle BROWN reste malgré tout fidèle au sport paralympique. “C’est un honneur merveilleux, et une manière fantastique de terminer l’année 2012”, a déclaré la championne. “Gagner une deuxième médaille d’or paralympique a été un sentiment incroyable, et enchaîner avec la médaille d’argent à la Finale de la Coupe du Monde à Tokyo deux semaines plus tard l’a été tout autant. Janvier 2013 World Archery Newsletter Page 4 Evénements passés Coupe du Monde en Salle étape 2: Nîmes Le 16e Tournoi Européen de Nîmes, une épreuve comptant pour la Coupe du Monde en Salle, a eu lieu du 18 au 20 janvier 2013. Le premier tournoi de l'année a attiré plus de 1100 archers venus de 31 pays. Quelque 2200 spectateurs ont pu assister à des finales au plus haut niveau du tir à l’arc mondial. Cette année chacun des quatre gagnants a remporté le tournoi pour la première fois. Le champion du monde en salle 2007 Sebastian ROHRBERG (GER) s'est imposé en arc classique devant le champion d'Europe Rick VAN DER VEN (NED). Elias CUESTA a terminé 3e. Chez les femmes, la jeune Céline SCHOBINGER (SUI) a battu la quintuple championne du monde en salle Natalia VALEEVA (ITA) pour remporter son premier grand titre individuel à 23 ans. La Coréenne KIM Min Jung a pris la troisième place au détriment de Lisa UNRUH (GER), gagnante du tournoi en 2005, 2007 et 2012. En arc à poulies hommes, la compétition était plus relevée qu'un championnat du monde, avec la présence du no 1 mondial Reo WILDE (USA), de l'ancien vainqueur de la Finale de Coupe du Monde Sergio PAGNI (ITA), du no 4 mondial Pierre-Julien DELOCHE, du détenteur du record du monde Peter ELZINGA, du tenant actuel de la Coupe du Monde Braden GELLENTHIEN, du vice-champion du monde individuel Jesse BROADWATER (USA)… Après avoir dominé la saison 2012 season (champion du monde en salle, vainqueur des trois étapes de la Coupe du Monde, gagnant de la Coupe du Monde en Salle à Singapour, Reo WILDE a gagné le tournoi de Nîmes devant Pierre-Julien DELOCHE.

    THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT. MEN’S RUGBY TEAM The Men’s USA Rugby Sevens National Team came together to win their first-ever HSBC Sevens World Series Cup trophy. The Eagles faced tough competition throughout the London Sevens tournament but ultimately were victorious in every match. The Men’s Eagles faced France, Portugal and South Africa in pool play. In the match against France, the Eagles scored three tries and a conversion to go up 17-0 in the first half. The U.S. team scored one more try and a conversion answering France’s 19 points to win the match 24-19. The Eagles then faced Portugal. The game was tied 7-7 at halftime but the Eagles were able to pull away and win 28-12. Next, the USA took on South Africa. The Eagles found themselves down 0-12 at the end of the first half but scored 21 points to win 21-12. The Eagles finished the day with a perfect 3-0 record. In the Cup Quarterfinal, the Eagles were up against Canada. Canada beat the USA 40-0 in the Glasgow Sevens tournament the weekend prior and the Eagles were looking for redemption. Madison Hughes scored early to help the Eagles up 7-0 but Canada responded with a try of their own. Perry Baker scored at the end of the first half to give the Eagles a larger lead. Maka Unufe, Garrett Bender and Carlin Isles all scored in the second half to assist in a 29-10 win for the Eagles.

    THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT. Khatuna LORIG, ARCHERY Khatuna Lorig is one of the world’s most decorated and accomplished female archers. Born and raised in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, Khatuna took up archery in sixth grade. She found success very quickly and began competing at an elite level. At the age of 18, Lorig competed in her first Olympic Games for the Unified Team in the 1992 Barcelona Games where she won a bronze medal in the team competition. Khatuna continued to improve and competed in the 1996 Atlanta Games and 2000 Sydney Games as a member of the Republic of Georgia’s team. Lorig became a United States citizen in 2005, which allowed her to compete in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing as a member of Team USA. She also served as the flag bearer in the Closing Ceremony. In her fifth Olympic Games, Lorig finished in fourth place, just shy of the podium at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Lorig has a total of eight podium finishes so far in 2015 alone, and with more likely to come. She started the year off by winning bronze at the Indoor Archery World Cup Stage 4. Her first gold medal of the year came from the Arizona Cup where she also earned a bronze medal in the women’s recurve team division. She followed that tournament with another gold medal at the Easton Foundations Gator Cup. Lorig won bronze at the World Cup Stage 1 as a member of the women’s recurve team. On her home field at the CVOTC, Lorig earned a silver medal in the SoCal Showdown.

Korea set to hold ASEAN maritime drills Two warships of the Indian Navy have reached the South Korean port city of Busan after participating at an international maritime parade off the coast of Qingdao in China. The Indian Navy said INS Kolkata and INS Shakti are in Busan as part of a deployment of the eastern fleet to the South China Sea. "In a demonstration of India's Act East policy and the Indian Navy's increasing footprint and operational reach, Indian naval ships Kolkata and Shakti have arrived at Busan, South Korea on a three-day visit as part of deployment of the Eastern Fleet to the South China Sea on April 28," it said in a statement. The two ships had gone to China to participate in the International Fleet Review (IFR), organised to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Navy. The Navy said the two ships will participate in the ADMM-Plus Maritime Security Field Training Exercise (FTX) at Busan. The ADMM-Plus is a platform of the 10-member bloc, ASEAN, and its eight dialogue partners. The aim of the ADMM-Plus is to strengthen the security and defence cooperation among the member countries of the grouping. In the United States, Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden has accused President Donald Trump of abusing the powers of his office and ignoring everyone but his political base. 1.2.     THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT. BRADY ELLISON - ARCHERY Brady Ellison added another accomplishment to his already stellar list of accomplishments earlier this month in Lausanne, Switzerland, when he became the first archer in history to win the World Cup Final three times (2010, 2011, 2014). Ellison defeated Brazil’s Marcus Dalmeida, the youngest ever athlete to qualify for the Archery World Cup Final, to claim the title. Second-seeded Dalmeida shot first, scoring a nine. Ellison shot next, also tallying nine; however, Ellison’s shot was closer, crowning him the champion. “I wanted to remind everyone that I’m still around and I’m still a threat,” Ellison said. “It’s been too long since I won a tournament.” Ellison defeated the defending 2013 World Cup Champion Oh Jin Hyek of South Korea in the first round in a match that went to a rare shootoff. In the semifinal, Ellison knocked off Rick van der Ven of the Netherlands in five sets to reach the final. Ellison started shooting early in his life due to the fact that his dad hunted. In 2005, he switched from a compound bow, having already won a world championship, to a recurve bow Brady Ellison became the first archer in history to win the – the only type of bow allowed in the Olympic Games. After World Cup Final three times (2010, 2011, 2014) he made the switch at the USA Archery training camp, Brady became a resident athlete at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center and has since reached the top world ranking for the recurve bow.
