The Ten Essentials
Any time a Scout goes on a camping trip or hike, he needs be prepared by carrying the following ten essential items in his pack. These essentials will allow a scout to survive in the outdoors in most emergency situations.
T he ten essentials are:

_ _ _ _ extra food (trail m ix w orks great)
_ _ _ _ extra clothing (w ool sw eater, fleece, or a parka)
_ _ _ _ rain gear (a disposable poncho or garbage bag at m inim um )
_ _ _ _ first-aid kit (see checklist below )
_ _ _ _ m ap and com pass
_ _ _ _ m atches (in w aterproof case) and fire starter (cotton or candle in film can)
_ _ _ _ pocketknife
_ _ _ _ sun protection (sunscreen and/or hat)
_ _ _ _ flashlight w ith good batteries and of course there is the eleventh essential:
_ _ _ _ toilet paper (in zip-lock plastic bag)
