VICE-CHANCELLOR MESSAGE Bharathiar University, since its inception in 1982, has been growing to evolve as the nation's flagship – a research-led State University, known for its excellence in teaching and research, as well as its service to the society and to the nation. The University is a public State University with affiliating status, located in Coimbatore, a diverse cosmopolitan city, and placed in a peaceful environment, with more than 800 acres of lush green eco-friendly campus. ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Bharathiar University (BU) was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in February 1982 under the provisions of the Bharathiar University Act 1981. Bharathiar University, named after the great visionary and the revolutionary national poet Subramania Bharathi, functioning with the motto of “Educate to Elevate,” has emerged as one of the strong pillars of higher education in this region. It is situated under the foothills of , along the Western Ghats, with a sprawling area of 778.89 acres. It also has excellent connectivity through road, rail and air to other parts of the state and the country. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), has accredited Bharathiar University with 'A' Grade in third cycle of assessment. The University has 37 Departments under 13 schools. Through these Departments, 3 undergraduate programmes, 59 postgraduate and postgraduate diploma courses, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes are being offered. There are nearly 2900 post-graduate students and more than 1100 research scholars. This University covers Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur and The Nilgiris districts, and is endowed with 133 affiliated colleges, of which 17 are Government colleges, 16 are aided colleges, 1 air force college and the remaining 99 are self-financing colleges; and 34 research institutions. PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION Candidates desirous of obtaining admission into the PG Degree/PG Diploma and Certificate programs offered in the University Departments are requested to carefully read the rules of eligibility and other instructions given in the Prospectus. The candidates have to pay the Registration Fee of Rs.400/- through net banking / Debit / Credit Cards/DD/NEFT. SC/ST candidates have to pay only Rs.200/- provided they have to produce a photo copy of his/her community certificate. FREE EDUCATION SCHEME

Free Education Scheme offered by the University enables free education to the poor and meritorious students. It is offered to one candidate from each department, admitted into various degree programme of the University. The free education scheme is applicable only to the students whose parents income is less than Rs. 2.00 lakhs per annum.

# RESERVATION NORMS AND FEE CONCESSION

t Admission will be made strictly on the basis of the reservation policy of Government of Tamil Nadu. t Students belonging to Adi Dravidar and Tribal Community and Adi Dravidar students converted to Christianity are exempted from paying the Tuition Fee under TNER - 92, Government of Tamilnadu. t 5% of the seats are reserved for Differently abled students in all the programmes and exempted from paying the Tuition fee and special fee for all categories of students with disabilities (on production of disability certificate)

Applicants can select 3 programmes of their choice. If there is no vacancy in the 1st choice then the application will be transferred automatically to the 2nd choice. CAMPUS LIFE AT BHARATHIAR UNIVERSITY History The University is located in the foothills of Western Ghats of about 12 KM from Coimbatore City and in a sprawling area of 778.89 acres. Coimbatore is a cosmopolitan city which has many well established industrial sectors and it is a very busy industrial hub in South India. Bharathiar University is a leading Arts and Science University in the State and it is chartered by teaching excellence, innovation and industry – Institute Collaborations. Bharathiar University was established in the year 1982 with the motto of “Educate to Elevate”. In 2020, the University celebrated its 38th anniversary and the University is ranked 13th in NIRF 2020 in universities category. The Faculty We have committed and excellent faculty members in the campus. The competence of various departments over the years has been recognized by the Central and State Governments. The proven record of the scientists in the university has been recognized as “Centre with potential for excellence in a particular area (CPEPA)” by University Grants Commission, Government of India as well as DST-PURSE.

Amenities The University has its own transport facilities for students, staff and faculty to commute across the city. The campus is also well-connected with very frequent buses from the city. The University runs five hostels for boys and five hostels exclusively for girl students and one hostel for international students . The University is offering well- equipped Library, Computer Centre, Health Centre and Sports Stadium. A Post-Office, Bank, Food Court, Travel Desk, Stationery Shop Spa, Gym and swimming pool are functioning in the University Campus for the benefit of the staff, faculty and students. The University departments and office are having ramp facilities for Differently abled candidates. Computing Facilities The data centre is equipped with the latest state-of-art technology with a 1 GBPS Broad band Connectivity. The Internet centre has high speed internet server, scanner, web camera, printer cum copier machines and multimedia accessibility. Apart from these facilities, each department has a broad band internet connectivity with LAN and Wi-Fi facility for the use of students and faculty members. Further the University is connected with national knowledge network (NKN). Library The Library is located in a vast building and plays a vital role in supporting the learning interest of the faculty members and students. It has a collection of over 1,90,000 books covering all the subjects taught in the University departments. The digital open access system has a range of services with its catalogue, which can be searched using computer terminals in the Library of UGC-INFLIBNET with internet access. The library also gives access to a wide range of electronic resources. Recently the library is updated with RFID Technology. Scholarships and Awards Government of India merit, backward class, most backward class, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe scholarships are available for P.G. students. UGC sponsored scholarships such as Single Girl Child, Rank holders, Rajiv Gandhi JRF & SRF are also available for students and scholars.

IPR Cell Bharathiar University facilitates the protection and managing of inventions through filing different IP and encourages the faculty members and students innovative ideas and inventions resulting from University research outcomes. Fitness Centre The University fitness centre is functioning in the basement of the School of Distance Education Block. This facility is open to all the faculty, staff and students. Separate sections are available for men and women. Well qualified physical fitness instructors are available in the centre. The centre focuses its attention on maintaining and developing physical fitness, weight reduction, body building, yoga and meditation. Health Centre and Counselling Cell The health centre caters to the medical needs of the staff, faculty and students of the University. It functions from 10 A.M to 5 P.M on all working days with well experienced doctors and nurses. A specialized counsellor will be counselling the students.

NSS The University extends its community services through the National Service Scheme (NSS) with 250 NSS units functioning in the University departments and affiliated colleges. Nearly 25,000 student volunteers are actively involved for social upliftment through NSS and Red Ribbon Club (RRC). Online Services The online services like, payment of tuition fees, exam fees, hostel fees and other relevant forms, information are being offered through the website of the University www.b-u.ac.in including National Academic Depository (NAD), an online store of all academic awards. Hostels Separate hostel facilities are available for Men and Women with single and twin bed rooms, solar heater, common mess with Indian food and recreation rooms.
