Corymbia calophylla is one of the most common trees in the hills. This tree has been acknowledged to provide habitat and food for an astounding number of native fauna and provides an important part of the diet for the black cockatoos. One of the advantages of C.calophylla it is resistance to Phytophthora cinnamomi (dieback). this important tree if you have the room.

The beautiful and durable timber has meant that this tree has been extensively logged throughout the region with few very mature specimens surviving.

A further threat to jarrah is the susceptibility to Phytophthora cinnamomi (dieback), planting each jarrah with at least one Acacia pulchella can help prevent the spread of this disease.

Hollow trunks and branches are used by nesting birds. The fallen limbs provide shelter for many small animals.

Help to restore this important icon of the Hills by planting on larger properties.

Traditionally grows in heavier clays in sites prone to waterlogging. Great habitat tree if you have wetter conditions.

Extremely tough tree that thrives where granite is close to the surface. The durable timber is resistant to white and therefore has been widely used for fencing.

This tree does tend to drop branches so keep away from buildings and fences, but well worth planting if you have plenty of room.

This tree has a wide growing range and was extensively used by the early settlers for fences, many of these fences are still standing today. The beautiful colour of the timber is responsible for the common name ‘raspberry jam’ wattle.

Acacia acuminata is now also widely plated as a host plant for sandalwood.

This can also be used as a fodder plant for sheep, but on its own provides a dense middle story species for wind breaks.

Nothing is more soothing than the sound of a breeze in a Casuarina grove. The plants come in male and female and both are required to ensure fertile seeds. The dense foliage provides great infill between sparser eucalypts, they also fix nitrogen!

All casuarinas can provide beautiful timber for fine furniture makers – eventually.

An actual tree that will grow in quite saline and water logged conditions. Widely used for saltland rehabilitation plantings and is now increasingly being looked to for furniture timber as well.

Beautiful weeping tree that can still be planted in smaller gardens. Provide great shade for the children to play under.
