BROKEN HORN BULL a Collection of Essays
BROKEN HORN BULL A Collection of Essays by MARTIN ANBEGWON ATUIRE B.A., University of Colorado, Denver, l998 A thesis submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Colorado in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Fine Arts Department of English 2011 This thesis entitled: Broken Horn Bull A Collection of Essays written by Martin Anbegwon Atuire has been approved for the Department of English Associate Professor Marcia Douglas Associate Professor John-Michael Rivera _________________________________________ Assistant Professor Noah Eli Gordon Date The final copy of this thesis has been examined by the signatories, and we Find that both the content and the form meet acceptable presentation standards Of scholarly work in the above mentioned discipline. Abstract Atuire, Martin Anbegwon (M.F.A. English, Creative Writing) Broken Horn Bull A Collection of Essays Thesis directed by Associate Professor Marcia Douglas I am a native Buli speaker and belong to the second generation of Bulsa who had the chance to obtain formal education in English. None of my grandparents, and hardly anyone from their generation had the opportunity to go to school. The first schools were established by the British beginning with my father’s generation. My mother never had the opportunity to go to school. She was therefore non-literate in English and Buli. During the colonial era, schools were mostly in the southern part of Ghana while the north, where I come from, was mostly left alone to its native ways and native forms of education. With such background I find myself as a writer working at a very interesting and exciting time in the history of our language and narrative forms. -

Better Is One Day In Christ Alone How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord almighty In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light my strength my song For my soul longs and even faints for You This Cornerstone this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm For here my heart is satisfied within Your presence What heights of love what depths of peace I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings When fears are stilled when strivings cease My Comforter my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand CHORUS: Better is one day in Your courts, better is one day in Your house In Christ alone who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe Better is one day in Your courts than thousands elsewhere This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save (Than thousands elsewhere) Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live One thing I ask and I would seek, to see Your beauty To find You in the place Your glory dwells There in the ground His body lay, light of the world by darkness slain (REPEAT) -

One of the many misconception about country music is that its audience is strictly southern and rural; my northern urban working class family listened exclusively to country music. As a teenager I was was more interested in Motown than Nashville, but by the time I reached my early thirties I had became a serious country music fan. -
Walk Away Pastor Ted Cunningham
Sacred Echoes Part 1 – Walk Away Pastor Ted Cunningham Today, we are starting a new series called Sacred Echoes. What is the sacred echo? Years ago, my friend, Margret Feinberg, wrote a book called The Sacred Echo. She’s been here a couple of times. Her last time here, she helped train speakers and writers at our church with how to write better. She calls the sacred echo God using his Word in our lives. It just shows up at unexpected times and through different people and places. For the month of November, we want to explore the sacred echo. We hope to hear from you about your sacred echo. The teaching team will be participating in this over the next month. We’re going to start today with the sacred echo I’ve had for a little while now and that is talking about walking away. We’re going to talk about five toxic people that you need to walk away from. But, before we jump into that, I want to just share with you a definition, a brief introduction into the idea of sacred echoes. In Hebrews 4, we read, 12 For the word of God is alive and active. And all God’s people said… Amen. This is not a book that you read and walk away from; this is a book you read, and it changes you because this is the Word of God. You should go to this book to feed you every day, to nourish you, to correct you, to challenge you, and to change you. -

MARCH 1832. NIGHT 45. 4/01 It’s very spartan: a dozen narrow iron framed beds with cupboards, and a dozen GIRLS getting out of their uniforms and into their nighties. Ages seventeen down to about thirteen. All very neat, very modest, but chattering and giggling at the same time. GERMAINE Look at Marie Claire, she can’t wait till Friday! COSETTE What’s happening on Friday? GERMAINE She’s leaving, of course. MARIE CLAIRE is smiling like the cat that’s got the cream. COSETTE Oh. I didn’t think it was so soon. She’s a little upset that her friend is being taken from her. MARIE CLAIRE Don’t you wish you could, Cosette? COSETTE I don’t know. MARIE CLAIRE Pretty dresses, parties... GERMAINE Dancing, falling in love... MARIE CLAIRE Getting engaged - GERMAINE And doing that.... MARIE CLAIRE Germaine! GERMAINE Well I’m only saying. MARIE CLAIRE produces a little miniature from her cupboard. MARIE CLAIRE Look. That’s my cousin. Isn’t he handsome? I’ll be seeing him on Saturday. -

SEARCH ANDY SHERNOFF OF THE DICTATORS MEETS THE ZOMBIE JEW 10.24.2011 05:02 pm Topics: Amusing Belief Hysteria Kooks Music Punk Tags: Andy Shernoff Are You Ready To Rapture Ace musician, producer, founding member of The Dictators and Dangerous Minds’ friend Andy Shernoff has a new Youtube video and it’s a winner. Andy shared with DM the history and inspiration behind the making of Are You Ready To Rapture: I grew up in New York City so the only people I knew who believed that Jesus was actually going to fly down from the sky were mentally ill preachers screaming their lungs out in what was then a very seedy Times Square. I had no idea how widespread this revenge fantasy called the Rapture was until a few years ago. I had the phrase Jewish Zombie rolling through my brain and wanted to incorporate it into a song. I developed a fascination with Christian eschatology and researched it extensively. I wanted everything in the The last known recording of Lennon & song to accurately represent what these knuckleheads believe. It McCartney: ‘A Toot and a Snore in ‘74’ took a few months and I probably wrote 25 verses until I had three with the right combination of drama, truth and sarcasm. Gorgeous psychedelic handbills and posters I felt the best way to communicate the song was with a cartoon. I met from Detroit’s Grande Ballroom, circa 1967‑68 Brian Musikoff through a mutual friend and he was the only person considered after I saw his animation for a Patton Oswalt’s comedy routine, ‘Christmas Shoes’. -
