Guests today included Jared Kerasoma and Roger Mejia. President Neil provided a summary of the District’s total for the Shoes for Orphans project. There were 3,743 shoes, 2,035 socks and approximately $7,000 in cash raised by the various clubs. There is a freeze on grant giving due to the delays in having a golf outing. Plans for selling items at the Kevin Sonnycalb Memorial Fireworks, along with ad revenue from the placemats should allow the club to resume making grants in the near future.

Sarge Alan Orders and Fines for the Day Sarge Alan started with a few items from the Gazette. Cliff Johnson covered the story about Grace Norman being the “newsmaker” of the year at Cedarville University. The sarge celebrated the running of the with some interesting trivia, starting with the name of this year’s winner (Always Dreaming). That was one of two correct answers so there were a few bucks made by the sarge today. The other correct answer included this year’s winnings ($1.25 Million). Wrong answers were provided how many people on the infield (80,000); highest payout at the Derby (a $1 ticket for the superfercta paid $864,253); three under 2 minute mile winners (, Sham and ); and money wagered at the Derby this year

($32.8 Million dollars)

Happy Bucks Brad Montgomery had a buck for the great music provided by Joe Kennedy as he performs at Faith Community United Methodist Church. Judy Baker and Sarge Alan both had a happy buck for the contributions from the Health District’s Foundation. Judy received funding for Wheels on Meals and Alan for the Y’s programs. Cliff Johnson was happy to report that his assigned seat at Cedarville’s commencement ceremony allowed him to be very close to his great granddaughter. Alan Liming was happy about the Chamber’s Business After Hours and the upcoming Chamber Golf Outing on 24 May. st Denny Morrison had a happy buck for Allison Rapp and Sarah Harner, who won 1 place in the FFA Senior Science competition at the state level.

Today’s Program Was Presented by Matt Bennett

Roger Mejia

Roger Mejia provided information about himself and what he experienced as a participant in Rotary Youth Exchange. Roger was hosted jointly this year by Dayton and Xenia Rotary. His host families were all located in Yellow Springs. Roger comes from the state of Chiapa, which is located at the very southern end of Mexico. It is place of natural beauty, with the equivalent of the Grand Canyon and many old historic towns, dating back to 1528. It took a very long time to fly from his town, with intermediate stops in Mexico City and Dallas, to Dayton. What was 5 hours of flying turned into 13 hours of travel. He landed in Dayton, greeted by his host family at 11:30 pm. He spoke of living with his first host family and them being vegetarians. He enjoyed eating out as it gave him a chance to eat meat and it not be so disruptive to the family’s meal time routine. He enjoyed plays and theater thanks to his host families, things that he did not experience much at home. He hiked, had overnights with other exchange student and for the very first time saw snow. While with his second host family, Roger went on vacation to Florida. He was able to have his friend, an exchange student from Spain, join him on this trip. Having someone fluent with his native language was nice but he felt his English language skills improved greatly since his arrival in the US. While both his father and mother are doctors, only his mother speaks English. He enjoyed trips with his final host family to New York and South Carolina. He hopes to become a pilot in the future. He described Taco Bell as not being real Mexican food but he still enjoyed it.
