PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR • The Dragons will host a consolation round game against St. Bonaventure on November 21. Jazmon Gwathmey, James Madison • It is the third time in which Drexel plays in the event. The Dragons are 3-3 all-time in Preseason WNIT action. In 2005, the Dragons fell to Boston College. IN THE POLLS DOUBLE-DIGIT STREAKS James Madison is receiving votes in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll. • USA Today Coaches Poll: JMU has been recognized in the USA Today Poll by either receiving votes or a Scoring (min. 5 gms) national ranking for 20 consecutive weeks dating back to last season. Last year, JMU’s ranking of No. 21 Bre Bolden, CofC 13 games on February 16 was the highest of 2014-15 and the highest since the final poll of the 1990-91 season Erika Brown, Delaware 9 games when they checked in at No. 15. • College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 Poll: The Dukes were the fifth-ranked team in the College Insider Mid- Rebounding (min. 2 gms) Major Top-25 Preseason Poll while Drexel, Elon and Hofstra received votes. Last season, JMU spent nine consecutive weeks in the top spot. Last season’s CAA Player of Jackie Schluth (DREX) 1 the Year, Precious Hall of James Madison, will miss the 2015-16 season due to injury. Daijha Thomas (TOW) 1 Anjie White (HOF) 1 LOOKING BACK AT 2014-15 • National Postseason: Five CAA teams qualified for national postseason play with James Madison heading to the NCAA Tournament, Hofstra, Elon, and Drexel earning bids to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), and William & Mary heading to the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI). Individual 15-Rebound Games • National Stat Leaders: Several CAA players and teams were among the national leaders at season’s end. James Madison’s Precious Hall finished the year ranked 19th in scoring (20.5 ppg) and seventh in three- 20+ Point Game Leaders point field goals made per game (3.00). JMU’s Angela Mickens finished fourth in assists (7.6/g) and eighth Sarah Curran (DREX) 1 in assist-turnover ratio (2.78). College of Charleston’s Bre Bolden finished 15th in steals per game (3.0). Samantha DeFreese (NU) 1 James Madison was 11th in rebounding margin (+9.5), tenth in scoring margin (+15.8), 15th in offensive Jazmon Gwathmey (JMU) 1 rebounds per game (17), and 17th in scoring offense (75.9). Drexel finished second in the nation in free Dominique Johnson (TOW) 1 throw percentage (.778) and 16th in scoring defense (55.14/g). William & Mary finished 13th in steals per Rachel Pearson (DREX) 1 game (11.3). Delaware finished 11th in three-point percentage (.374). Marlena Tremba (WM) 1 • RPI Ratings: The CAA as a whole finished the season ranked 12th in the RPI ratings released by Collegiate Basketball News. Four CAA teams were ranked in the top-110. James Madison had an RPI of 31 while Individual 25-Point Games Hofstra was 100 , Drexel’s RPI stood at 105, , and Elon was 108. James Madison had a season-best RPI Marlena Tremba (WM) at Mt. St. Mary’s (11/13) 26 of five on December 19 while the CAA has been ranked as high as tenth on several occasions. • Elon Shines in Debut: Head Coach Charlotte Smith and the Elon Phoenix made a seamless transition into the CAA for their inaugural season. Smith, in her fourth season, guided Elon to a 19-14 overall mark and a Individual 30-Point Games 11-7 record in conference play, securing the fourth seed in the CAA Championship. The Phoenix advanced to the semifinals of the tournament before falling to eventual champion James Madison. Elon was also Individual 40-Point Games rewarded with its first-ever berth in the WNIT. Individually, Smith had the distinction of being one of 10 members chosen for the 2015 Class of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. • Non-Conference Notes: The CAA went a combined 53-57 (.467) against non-conference opponents. Five teams finished their non-conference slate with a record at least .500 or better. DOUBLE-DOUBLES Shay Burnett (ELON) 1 • National Honors: Delaware’s Stephanie Leon was one of five NCAA Division I women’s basketball student- Ashunae Durant (HOF) 1 athletes to be named to the 2015 Allstate WBCA Goodworks Team. James Madison point guard Angela Nicole Enabosi (UD) 1 Mickens was named as a finalist for Nancy Lieberman Award by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Savannah Felgemacher (JMU) 1 Fame. The award recognizes the top point guard in NCAA Division I. Jordan Henry (UNCW) 1 • WNBA Draft: With the 34th overall pick, the Atlanta Dream selected James Madison redshirt-senior center Lauren Okafor in the third round of the 2015 WNBA Draft with the team’s second pick.
