Creates a Legal Pleading 1 CITY OF ALBANY 2 PROCLAMATION 3 4 WHEREAS, Lost in the Fog was one of Albany’s valued citizens; and 5 WHEREAS, Lost in the Fog was based at Golden Gate Fields and was 6 frequently called “the most popular horse to come out of the Bay Area since Seabiscuit”; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, Lost in the Fog achieved his fame by winning races across the 9 country with a dazzling display of speed and heart; and 10 WHEREAS, Lost in the Fog won his first 10 races, a streak in which he won nine 11 stakes and set two track records. Lost in the Fog was voted the Eclipse Award, as the 12 nation’s top sprinter for 2005 in a landslide; and 13 WHEREAS, stricken with cancer, Lost in the Fog had his racing career and life 14 cut short. His final record featured 11 wins – 10 of the stakes variety – and a second 14 15 starts and $978,099 in earnings; and 16 WHEREAS, Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze rode Lost in the Fog in all but one 17 of his races. Following are some Lost in the Fog Highlights: 18 • Made his career debut in November 14, 2004 at Golden Gate Fields easily 19 winning a five-furlong maiden allowance race by 71/2 lengths in 56.84 second. 20 • Set a track record when he won the 61/2 furlong Arizona Juvenile Stakes at Turf Paradise in 1:13.55. 21 • Set a Golden Gate Fields track record for six furlongs when he won the Golden Bear Breeders’ Cup in 1:07.32. 22 • Won the first 10 races of his career by an average winning margin of 63/4 23 lengths. 24 • Captured stakes races at eight different racetracks-Golden Gate Fields, Bay Meadows, Saratoga, Churchill Downs, Gulfstream Park, Calder Race Course, 25 Aqueduct and Turf Paradise. 26 • Scored his biggest victory in the Grade I King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga, giving his veteran trainer, Greg Gilchrist, his first Grade I win. 27 • Perhaps the most courageous stakes victory in racing history-when racing with cancerous tumors in his body that had yet to be detected-won the Grade III 28 Aristides Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs. 29 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Allan Maris, Mayor of the City 2 of Albany, do hereby proclaim that the City of Albany salutes Lost in the Fog for all the 3 great racing memories.
