Breaking Open the Word August 4, 2019 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 114 Gospel LK 12:13-21

Someone in the crowd said to , “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.” He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?” Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

Spiritual Reflection: “Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder is needed by others.” - Saint Augustine. Being a Christian means relating to material things in a whole new way.

Spiritual Questions: 1. How much control do material things have over your life? 2. What do you do with your surplus? 3. What do you think about the saints that gave everything away? 4. How can wealth lead us away from God? 5. How should a Christian deal with material possessions?
