Natural disaster Assessment and Response Update:

Kandahar:

Total number of families verified: 4,672

Total number of families assisted: 3,005

Ongoing and Planned distribution: 1,667

Following heavy precipitation and flooding on 01 March, city and several districts were severely impacted that resulted in destruction of the houses, agricultural land and public facilities. Assessment teams consisting of ANDMA, IOM, NRC, APA, DoRRD, HAPA, WFP, DoRR, SCI, UNHCR, DoAIL, DACAAR, Provincial Shura Rep, NRC and ARCS initiated assessments. 4,672 families were verified and eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM and humanitarian partners distributed NFIs and food items to 3,005 families and distribution of relief assistance to the remaining families are on-going.

Helmand:

Total number of families verified: 3,076

Total number of families assisted: 1,813

Ongoing and Planned distribution: 1,263

IOM together with ANDMA and joint assessment team initiated assessment of the flood affected families in Lashkargah, Qalae Bost, Nawa, and Nad Ali districts on 03 March and so far; 3,076 families were identified in need of humanitarian assistance. IOM and humanitarian partners so far assisted 1,813 families by provision of NFIs and food items while the assessment and distribution is on-going in Garmser, Deshu, Marja and Khanshin districts.

Zabul: As reported by ANDMA, 900 families were reportedly affected by flood in qalat city on 01 March. A joint team consisting of HAPA, WFP, ANDMA and DoRR conducted assess- ment of the affected families on 02 March. 935 families were found eligible for humanitarian assistance. The response to the affected families will be coordinated with the humanitarian partners.

Herat:

Total number of families verified: 1,344

Total number of families assisted: 1,344

An assessment team consisting of IOM, IRC, DRC, DACAAR, WFP and ANDMA carried assessment in and identified only one family affected in Armaliq village of Karukh district and second team consisting of IOM, WFP and ANDMA assessed the flood damages in district and have verified 254 families in 3 villages; Mullah Asfand, Joi Qazi and Bala Shar/ Posht Shar. IOM distributed NFIs and emergency shelter while UNICEF and WFP distributed hygiene and food items. ARCs was deployed to assess the affected families in Zawol, Zir Ko and Posht Koh districts. 741 families were verified eligible for humanitarian assistance, UNICEF and ARCs will distribute NFIs and WFP will cov- er food needs of the affected families.

In the separate incident on 18 March, 660 families were reportedly affected Shindand, Zawol, Zanda Jan and Ghoryan districts. A joint assessment was intiated that has so far identified 348 families eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM and partners distributed NFIs and food items to the verified families while the assessment is on-going by ARCs in the insecure areas.

Farah: Total number of families verified: 7,833

Total number of families assisted: 2,412

A joint assessment team consisting of government line department, IOM, UNICEF, WFP, ARCS, DACAAR, DRC initiated assessment of flood affected families in Farah city on 03 March however the assessment was later paused by governor who has then established 80 team of government staff who are conducting the assessments. The humanitarian agencies team identified 702 families that was later paused by governor. A separate meeting organized by OCHA represented by humanitarian agencies convinced the governor for resuming the assessment by humanitarian partners. 7,833 families were identified eligible for humanitarians assistance in 23 villages of Farah city. IOM and UNICEF distrib- uted NFIs, Blankets, emergency shelter to 2,412 families while WFP committed to cover food needs. The distribution of NFIs for 323 families is on-going while the need for NFIs for 5,083 families is gap so far that is being coordinated among humanitarian agencies with government already initiated cash distributed to the remaining families.

Khost:

Per initial report, over 90 families reportedly affected due heavy rainfall in Matun, Mandozai, Teri Zai, Sabari Bak and Gurbaz districts. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, NRC, IRC, WFP, DAIL, DoRR and ANDMA conduct assessment of the affected families on 04 Mar. 224 families were found affected in Mandozai and Matun districts. IOM distributed NFIs to 66 families, IRC distributed cash for NFIs to the remaining families and WFP covered food needs of the affected families.

Parwan:

As per the initial report; 217 families were reportedly affected by heavy snowfall in Sayeed Khail, Shenwari, Salang, Charikar Bagram, Jabal Sirag and Kohi Khana districts on 21 February. A joint team consisting of IOM, CARE international, IDS/WFP, ANDMA, DoRR, DRR and ARCs conducted assessment of the affected families on 23 February. 128 fami- lies were found eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM distributed blanket modules and winter clothing modules while WFP distributed food items to the affected families. Kapisa:

As per the initial report; 100 families were reportedly affected by heavy snowfall in Nijrab, Hasawal, Hasa dow, Kohband, Mahmood Raq and Tagaqdistricts on 21 February. A joint team consisting of IOM, CARE international, IDS/WFP, ANDMA, DoRR, DRR and ARCs initiated assessment of the affected families on 23 February. 92 families were iden- tified eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM distributed NFIs, ANDMA distributed cash to 20 families whose houses were completely destroyed and WFP covered food needs of the affected families.

Jalalabad: As reported by ANDMA, 62 families were reportedly affected by heavy rainfall in Deh Bala, Surkhrod, Kuz Kunar, city, Behsood, Chaprehar and Hesarak districts on 11 March. A joint team consisting of IOM, IMC, WFP, ARCs and ANDMA conducted assessment of the affected families. 92 families were found eligible for humanitarian assis- tance. IOM, IMC and ARC distributed NFIs and ANDMA covered food needs of the affected families.

Kunar: As reported by ANDMA, 307 families were reportedly affected by heavy rainfall in Asad Abad, Sarkano, Marwara, Wata Por, Shegal, Ghazi Abad, Dangam, Chapa Dara, Sultan, Dara Pech and Asmar district on 03 March. A joint team consisting of IOM, WFP, ANDMA and IMC conducted assessment of the affected families on 06 March. 293 families were found eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM and IMC distributed NFIs and WFP covered food needs of the affected families.

In separate incident, one family was affected, three persons killed and five persons sustained injuries due to a land slide in Asad Abad. ANDMA conducted assessment of the affected family and distributed NFIs and food items.

Laghman: As reported by ANDMA, 94 families were reportedly affected by heavy rainfall in Alingar, Alishang, Mehtarlam, Qarghy and Bad pakh districts on 03 March. A joint team con- sisting of IOM, WFP, ANDMA and ARCs conducted assessment of the affected families on 04 March. 130 families were found eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM, RRD and ARCs distributed NFIs and WFP covered food need of the affected families.

Nuristan: As reported by ANDMA, 30 families were reportedly affected by heavy snowfall in Wama, Mandol, Kamdish, Bargi Matal and districts on 17 February. A joint team con- sisting of IOM, ZOA, AHEAD, WFP, IMC, ARCs and ANDMA conducted assessment of the affected families on 01 March. 254 families were found eligible for humanitarian as- sistance.
