Board Chair/CEO Update

Molly Bell, GoDaddy Board Chair, Chandler Chamber of Commerce

Join us for the 32nd annual Chandler Chamber Ostrich festival, March 13 – 15 at Tumbleweed Park. We are excited to kick off this year’s event with three days of high profile concerts, exciting midway rides, attractions and of course, fabulous festival food. This is the Chandler Chamber’s signature event, created by the Chamber Board of Directors in 1988, that allows us to help bring this amazing community and the Valley, together to positively impact the lives of its attendees.

While the Ostrich Festival impacts the lives of its attendees with family fun, comradery, educational attractions and more, there are many other ways it touches the Chandler community. We work with Waste Management as our “Environmental Wellness” partner for the event, furthering the festival’s commitment to supporting the local community through sustainable practices like recycling. Our community outreach allows area nonprofits to volunteer at the festival raising awareness for their organization and donations for their cause.

The Chandler Chamber prides itself in encouraging innovation. In support of this, the Ostrich Festival offers many fun and educational at- tractions and shows throughout the weekend for the workforce of the future (our kids). A big hit among families is the STEM Wild Tent, a 7,000 square foot attraction featuring a collection of hands-on science activities. The Professor Smart Science show demonstrates that yes, science can be fun!

So when you are rocking out to Blues Traveler, tasting your first fried Twinkie or carrying around the giant stuffed animal you just won on the midway, know that the Ostrich Festival is positively impacting the community in which we live, work and play.

Terri Kimble, President/CEO Chandler Chamber of Commerce @terri_Kimble

While we are in what I like to call, “show mode” for the Chandler Chamber Ostrich Festival, I want to make sure that you all are aware that the Chamber is taking nominations for another big event, the Chandler Chamber Community Awards that will be taking place May 29th at Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino.

We have so many worthy members qualified for these award that I ask that you take a moment, look over the award categories, and nominate a Chamber peer. Now nothing says you can’t nominate your business. You are an expert on your business or the company you work for so please put yourself out there and get noticed! Sometimes we are hesitant about ’tooting our own horn’ when we should be shouting it from the roof tops! Here is your chance.

I am proud to announce that we have added another category to the program—the Veterans’ Advocate of the Year Award recognizing a business that leads our community through a commitment to the inclusion and support of veterans. We also have our application for the Chandler Gilbert Community College scholarship on line and all applications and nominations are due March 27th.

Please click here for information on the Community Awards nominations and Scholarship application.

Chandler Chamber Living Magazine 4 Chandler Mayor Update

Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke City of Chandler @ChandlerAZMayor

As the Community of Innovation Chandler continues to pioneer ways to provide an exceptional quality of life for residents, a stimulating atmosphere for business and exciting experiences for our visitors. The City recently released the 2019 Annual Report, available at chandleraz.gov/2019AnnualReport. It describes major projects, profiles the community and shares accolades received in 2019. It also previews items residents can anticipate occurring in 2020.

Some of the major highlights include:  Chandler experienced the lowest crime rate ever in nearly 50 years of tracking that statistic and com- munity partnerships helped prevent crimes, fires and drownings.  Development in Price Corridor, West Chandler and other employment areas attracted $190 million in investment and will lead to companies creating nearly 4,000 jobs. Development, major events, street improvements and a new parking garage illustrated the growth of dining, entertainment and employment in Downtown Chandler.  Chandler Center for the Arts celebrated its 30th anniversary season, new public art debuted and the new Chandler Museum marked its first year in operation. Chandler Public Library unveiled early literacy spaces and Tumbleweed Recreation Center upgraded its fitness facilities.  Taxpayers experienced some of the lowest costs for services, utility charges, sales tax rates and staffing levels in the Valley. Adherence to financial policies earned Chandler AAA bond ratings and national recognition for financial reporting and budgeting. Chandler was celebrated among national top rankings for best cities to become wealthy, best cities to find a job, best place for first time home buyers and best places to live in the Phoenix area. I look forward to continuing to work with our Chandler Chamber partners and businesses to ensure Chandler is one of the best cities to live, work, visit and play in the nation.
