EPI INFO COURSE

Epi Info is a public domain suite of software tools that has been in existence for over 20 years and is currently available for . It was developed by the CDC in Atlanta and designed for the global community of practitioners and researchers. Epi Info allows for electronic survey creation, data entry, and analysis. Its analytic routines include t-tests, ANOVA, nonparametric statistics, cross tabulations and stratification with estimates of odds ratios, risk ratios, and risk differences, logistic regression, survival analysis, and analysis of complex survey data.

WHY THIS EPI INFO COURSE?

Users have developed applications in Epi Info to meet their needs, even when they need to collect information about animal or human health; depending on their experiences and expected results. Epi Info provides a platform for easy data entry and database construction, a customized data entry experience, and data analyses with epidemiologic statistics, maps, and show the information from the virtual health records graphically, created based on the fields that you prefer, for public health professionals who may lack an information technology background. It is therefore useful in the management of databases of different diseases, infection factors, and others: outbreak investigations; for developing small to mid-sized systems; as analysis, visualization, and reporting (AVR) components of larger systems; and in the continuing education in the science of epidemiology and public health analytic methods at schools of public health around the world.

Another special feature of the software to take note of is the “Epi Info Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Application” – especially designed to provide case management, contact tracing, analysis and reporting services during outbreaks of Ebola virus, Marburg virus, Lassa virus, Rift Valley Fever, and Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever. It can operate successfully in remote parts of the world with no Internet connectivity and on low-end computer hardware.

ABOUT THE COURSE: This course will provide hands-on experience with Epi Info 7 to develop public health data systems. The course is led by highly experienced trainers with many years of experience. The course provides a platform for easy data entry and database construction, a customized data entry experience, and data analyses with epidemiologic statistics, maps, and graphs using Epi Info and employs exercises based on real-world cases.

COURSE GOAL:

To introduce participants to how Epi Info can be used to carry out the epidemiological analysis component of an outbreak investigation, through creating and analyzing a questionnaire for a simple common source outbreak.

Knowledge & Skills for efficiency and productivity in development

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:

 To enable participants learn how to use Epi Info for data capturing and creating investigations;  To enable participants perform statistical analyses for public health and epidemiology;  To be able to produce reports based on data analyzed
