Summary

This guide describes the Group Policy Object (GPO) setup in the domain for Location-Based Printing, using the ThinPrint GPO plug-in (TPVMGPoACmap.dll). It also includes the setup instructions for virtual machines and desktops from VMware View Administration via a View Client connection.

Environment

Desktops and computers are part of an Organizational Unit (OU) in the Domain:

Download the Group Policy Management Console with SP1 from : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0A6D4C24-8CBD-4B35-9272- DD3CBFC81887&displaylang=en • Install the gpmc.msi file on the Connection Broker • Install the latest View Manager build on the Connection Broker • After the Connection Broker installation is completed, the file, TPVMGPoACmap.dll should be installed the following location:

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\\extras\GroupPolicyFiles\ThinPrint\ia32\ TPVMGPoACmap.dll (32 bit)

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\extras\GroupPolicyFiles\ThinPrint\x64\ TPVMGPoACmap.dll (64 bit)

Steps to Set Up the GPO Plug-in

On the VDM Server host, install the GPO plug-in as follows, depending on your Server OS :

• Run \TPVMGPoACmap.dll to register the GPO plug-in.

• Launch Group Policy Management -> Administrative Tools -> Group Policy Management • Create a new GPO name, “Test_Thin_Print”, under Group Policy Objects – Right-click Group Policy Objects and Select New – Enter “Test_Thin_Print” and click OK to create it

• Select the new “Test_Thin_Print” GPO and drop it to the winXP3 OU – Click the OK button to link the GPO to the winXP3 OU

• Enable the new “Test_Thin_Print” GPO under winXP3 OU – Select “Test_Thin_Print” under winXP3 OU and right-click and select Edit – Under Software Settings, Select AutoConnect Map Additional Printers for VMware View – Double-click Configure AutoConnect Map Additional Printers on the right panel – Select the Enable radio button

• Click to insert the row entry in the table • After populating the entries, click Apply and the OK button

Setup for View Client

• Install the view_agent on the virtual machines/desktops part of the winXP3 OU • Log into the Connection Broker’s Web Admin UI as administrator user • Create a Pool to include those virtual machines/desktops in the winXP3 OU

• Entitle a user or group to the pool

Access Virtual Machines/Desktops via View Client

• Install the View Client • Launch View Client to log into the Connection Broker

• Click Connect and enter the entitled user to access the pool. Click Login • Select the Pool with the virtual machines/desktops from the winXP3 and click Connect

• After the View Client has connected, run the regedit to verify the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\thinprint\ PrinterCreateListEx2 registry key got populated with the GPO data setting

• Check the Printers and Faxes from the and verify that the default printer is set as your GPO setting
