Chance to meet your Neighbourhood Policing Team

A new initiative to boost visible community policing has been launched by Ann Barnes, and Crime Commissioner. During her election campaign, it was one of Mrs Barnes’ main manifesto promises to introduce a fleet of ‘mobile police stations’ – and this pledge has now come to fruition with the introduction of Police Contact Points. These are mobile police vans manned by Police Community Support Officers, which travel around mostly‐rural parts of the county where it was felt that police presence needed a boost. The Police Contact Points allow members of the public to report crime or anti‐social behaviour, discuss policing issues or concerns, and meet members of their neighbourhood policing team. Each of the Police Contact Points will make their visits on a two‐ weekly basis, spending 90 minutes in each location. You can find out when a mobile police station will be at your local area from the ad below or by visiting http://www.kent.police.uk/contact_us/police_contact_points/police

NHS South Kent Coast Welcomes Local People

Mental health will be one of the topics discussed at the next meeting in public of the governing body of NHS South Kent Coast Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). Taking place on Wednesday 4 September at Three Hills Sports Park, Cheriton Road, , CT19 5JU, the meeting is the third of its kind since the CCG’s April launch. And as usual, local people will be able to question governing body members during the public session from 2.45pm to 5pm. The CCG is responsible for buying the majority of healthcare for the 199,000 people living in Dover, Deal and Shepway. And meetings in public of the governing body have proved to be popular with local people. NHS South Kent Coast CCG Clinical Chair, Dr Darren Cocker, said: “The people of Dover and Shepway districts care passionately about local health services, and their past questions have reflected that strength of feeling. “The NHS belongs to the people – not the clinicians – and that’s why we’re so keen for the meetings to encourage open debate. The governing body is accountable to the local people it serves, and I hope our meetings in public reflect our openness. I look forward to receiving full and frank questions at the next meeting.” The agenda and supporting papers will be available on the CCG’s website on 28 August 2013. Questions from the public to the governing body can be submitted to [email protected]. People who would like to influence CCG decisions can get involved via their GP practice or the CCG’s Health Network. Most practices have patient participation groups, where people can find out what is happening within their practice and the CCG. The groups are also a channel for patients’ voices through to the CCG. Information about the Health Network is available via the website www.southkentcoastccg.nhs.uk. For more information about attending the meeting in public, local people should call 03000 424700 or email [email protected].

Letters to Editor Help local people in need with a packet or can!

After speaking to someone that helps out at the Rainbow Centre in Folkestone I was quite suprised and saddened to hear that the food bank they run on a fortnightly basis is so well used by individuals and families in the local area. Money is tight for everyone but being able to feed your family is another scale. As I said, I understand money is tight for everyone with outgoings going up day by day, with this in mind I do not want to ask for much and so wondered if you could help by buying an extra can of soup, tuna, baked beans, veg, tin toms etc.... or any other non-perishable item of food when you go shopping. These items can be dropped at either the Surgery on Church Road or in box by front door at 47 Silverlands Road and I will then drop off. An extra 50p on your weekly shop could help local people and assist in reducing one less worry. Thanks for taking time to read this - Tara :)
