4. City State Kuraghara, 200 BC, Copper Unit, 11.17 g, 21.86 mm, Obv : Hollow Cross at top, Stylized 'Kurara' Bird at bottom, Brahmi legend Kuraghara, Rev : Hollow Cross. The city location is Narmada Valley Region of Avanti near Ujjain. The name is derivative of Kurar + Ghara meaning 'home or nest of Kurar' where Kurar is name of a bird (Ospray Eagle). The city name finds numerous mention in Sanchi inscriptions indicating the region was very prosperous. It appears Kuraghara was the name of a city, region as well as a mountain. Fine, Rare.
