I don’t know which one of you out there found a magic lantern on one of our shoreline beaches and OFFICERS asked the genie who emerged “let’s President fast forward through this winter and Rob Cimler get right to springtime” but it can be 732-505-6218 the only explanation for how time [email protected] has absolutely zipped by this win- Vice President Nick Trocchia ter. Tom Geiger It has been an active winter for many JSR members and Porsche enthusiasts as 908-715-2600 well. There were plenty of activities on our calendar to attend. Last month, I wrote [email protected] Past President about our Pizza & Video Night and the 991 launch event at S+N. Now I can report on Bill Casey two more recent events that occurred. It’s a state-of-the-art facility and everyone had a chance attend a Track Chairman Greg Pfremmer tour of the warehouse. The day was filled with fascinating talks and presentations by 732-598-7348 renowned Porsche experts. This year, JSR’s own Mike Bavaro spoke on his latest [email protected] area of expertise, that being Cayman Performance & Reliability Enhancements. His Track Registrar session was a big hit as he held the audience’s interest throughout the hour with the Rob Cimler added benefit of displaying many Cayman parts that people could see close up and 732-505-6218 [email protected] touch. His talk was very well received and I have a strong feeling he will be asked Chief Instructor back again next year by the organizers. Also, registration will open this month for our “Thunder In 732-842-1046 the Pines” Driver Education event that will occur on August 22-23. Seeking Checkered Flags by Joan Leder Seeking Checkered Flags My participation in Porsche Club started at age 17, as a rally enthusiast with the Jersey Shore region. Th e chocolate 356 cabriolet was purchased by my boyfriend, now husband, Scott for a mere $1,000. After our trip around the mountains in West Virginia, we went to work replacing the floor boards that fortunately had not failed during our adventures.

Where are we now? Married nearly 33 years and still Porsche enthusiasts, as “ there is no substitute” in our lives. Scott recently purchased a triple black Boxter for my 55th birthday gift. I was back on track at NJ Park with the final 2011 Driver’s Education event through our Schattenbaum region. Scott is the Director of Driver and Team Development for the Intercontinental Trophy Cup (ITC) series, a North American answer to the European Cayman Cup. He is currently P2 Class Leader in the 2012 ITC race series with the number 87 black Cayman S prepared by Jersey Shore’s Bodymotion support crew.

Porsche Club events are an integral part of our lives. Mostly, track events and driver education seminars these days. I outfit myself with the Nikon D5000, a 2010 Christmas gift from you know who. From paddock to pit, highway to grid, my lens discovers fantasies turned into realities. Our first experience at Sebring International Raceway was for the 2008 PCA Club Sport race where Scott was driving his grey 964 in F class. A fellow 964 driver Charlie, from Jersey Shore region and Scott had fun dicing up the raceway for two years in a row. Charlie took the leap from 964 to 987 in 2010, when he ran the Watkins Glen Club Race in his sly silver streak. From there, the fever grew hotter and we made the purchase of a black on black Cayman S for the 2010 PCA Club Race at NJ Motorsports Park on the Thunderbolt track. Scott had the car for a month of race set-u p and a test and tune as available. It was love at first bite. Fro m track junkie to race junkie, we are hooked. No t just on the adrenaline from the cars on track, but with the people who volunteer to make these events filled with hospitality and community spirit.

Th e 2012 PCA Club Race for the 48 hours of Sebring began the first full season line-u p for the ITC series. RaceFanRadio hosted a live online feed and sounded music into the paddock. Interviews with Scott and other team drivers along with Bodymotion’s Mik e Bavaro and car video footage are streamed through the http://www.theracefannetwork.com/?s=itc web site. Our number of teams is growing as new drivers come from Midwestern and Northeastern areas of America. Southeast, Southwest, Northwest and Plains America is welcome. We encourage young drivers and support teams to follow us.

What brings me to Sebring aside from my support of the PCA Clu b and ITC racers, team crews and my husband? The diverse array of cars and people, of course! I capture images that inspire the youth in all of us. From vintage to pioneering, fascinating features on track and off provide mounds of excitement. Standing atop the tower, to turns 2 through 4, I was able to place myself as though seated with thrust to glide around curves that caress the soul, one body-o ne motion transcending flight. Each year I hope to find another one of the grand spots that produce GREAT images and intense emotional attachment to Porsche pleasures where there is NEVER a substitute.

PCA Club Racing Sebring February 2012 By Mike Gussis

If you are preparing a “Bucket List”, I have an entry for you. It is called PCA Club Racing. If you have read Mike Bavaro’s article about the Sebring Club Race, there isn’t much else I can add, ex- cept it was a lot of fun. Surprisingly enough I was very comfortable “coexist- ing” on the track, with 67 other drivers. The track is over 4 miles long and after the first 6-8 corners, the crowd of cars found its way into a smooth progressive flow pattern. I became very conscious of the fact that you need to be aware of the cars not only in sight, but what is beside you, behind you and “how did he get there”. Mike Gussis preparing to get out on the track. Learning the art of racing or Racecraft is something that I am getting my teeth into and will work at continuing my learning process with each experience.
