The Visual Arts The Visual Arts faculty comprises of Leon Blackman, Jan Beyer, Leonie Sawley, Sheryl Morgan and myself, Glenys Haensel. This year has begun with a flourish of activity and excursions to visit various exhibitions during the Festival of Arts and the Adelaide Fringe, including the Art Gallery of South Australia, the SAMSTAG, Adelaide Central School of Art, Torrens Parade Drill Hall, Light Square Gallery and the Migration Museum. Lasting impressions of interesting and compelling works of Year 8 Class Group art were seen at the 2012 SACE Art Show and the Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition 2012. MUSIC NEWS The Music Centre has been very busy over the last few weeks with a variety of events and celebrations. The biggest was the Special Music Short-listing and Interviews for next year’s intake.

2012 YEAR 10 PARENT - SACE INFORMATION EVENING For Parents / Caregivers of Year 10 Students Year 10 parents and caregivers are invited to attend a SACE & Course Counselling Information evening in the Forge at Marryatville High School on Tuesday 19th June 2012. The purpose of the evening will be to provide information to students and parents about SACE and the 2012 to 2013 Course Counselling processes. Topics will include SACE, Career & Course Planning, Vocational Pathways and University Entry Requirements. The evening will be in The Forge from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. FAMILY FORUM AT CAMPBELLTOWN Campbelltown Family Town partnership members, AITEC is pleased to invite parents, carers, guardians with children aged 12-18 – living, working or studying in the Campbelltown region - to a free forum on Wednesday 20th June from 7-9pm with entertaining, practical and relevant sessions on how to address and survive tricky issues such as: • Communication between parents/guardians/carers and their kids • How to manage frustration and anger – from the parent and the teen perspective • Educational challenges faced by teenagers • Any other youth/parental topic that they are interested in (parents/guardians/carers are encouraged to share with us their concerns when calling for RSVPs as we will try to address these topics during the forum.) Success in the Maths Association of SA Mathematics Competition The MASA School Mathematics Competition is considered the most difficult of the mathematics competitions that is on the school calendar. Each year it attracts about 1500 of the best students from across the state, and to gain even a Credit is a significant achievement. This year 13 of our students sat the competition which is sponsored by the local branch of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. It is pleasing to record that 8 out of the 13 gained a Credit or higher. Two students gained a place in the top 10 for their age division in the State which is an outstanding achievement. C ouncil of International Schools (CIS) Accreditation update As mentioned in the May newsletter, Marryatville High School is embarking on the Self Study, as part of the CIS Accreditation process. Marryatville High School is currently in the process of collecting the results of the Survey, which all members of the School community are invited to participate in. Staff and Students have now completed the survey, and we remind all parents/caregivers and old scholars that we would also like you to complete the survey in order to guide our Self Study. The last newsletter also made mention of the three main areas of focus during the accreditation process, which are: • Student Learning and Well-Being • The important role of the school’s Guiding Principles. • Fostering in students desirable traits related to internationalism and interculturalism.
