The Great Lakes Valley Conference made its name throughout the last 25 years as a power in NCAA Division II basketball. In the last few years, however, the GLVC has seen success in many sports, and now the league can claim itself as one of the nation's top in all Division II athletics. The addition of Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Quincy, Wisconsin-Parkside and Missouri-St. Louis in the mid-1990s allowed the GLVC to become an immediate national power in several sports such as men's and women's soccer, women's softball and tennis. At the start of the 2005-06 season, Missouri S&T, Drury University and Rockhurst University – all of whom have had a good deal of success at the regional and national levels in various sports – have enhanced the league’s reputation at the NCAA Division II level. Along with its expansion came the hiring of the league's first full-time commissioner in 1996. In 2001, an associate commissioner was also added to the full-time conference staff and the GLVC’s first full-time sports information director was added in the summer of 2006. The formation of the GLVC can be traced as far back as 1972 when the athletic directors of three member schools - Kentucky Wesleyan, Bel- larmine and Indiana State University at Evansville (now the University of Southern Indiana) - began preliminary discussions about forming a basketball conference. Four years later, the University of Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's College expressed interest. On July 7, 1978, those schools - along with Ashland University - united to become the GLVC. Since formulation of the conference, seven schools have joined the league: Lewis University (1980), Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne (1984), Northern Kentucky University (1985), Kentucky State University (1989), Quincy University (1994), Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (1994), University of Wisconsin-Parkside (1994) and UM-St. Louis (1995). Ashland and Kentucky State left the conference after the 1994 sea- son. IPFW left the GLVC following the 2000-01 academic year and SIU Edwardsville will leave the conference after the 2007-08 season. The conference expanded to include women's basketball in 1983-84 and immediately established a women's-men's doubleheader format in league play to ensure maximum exposure for both squads. The GLVC plays its games on Thursday and Saturday nights in November, Decem- ber, January and February. The GLVC can claim schools in all of the Midwest major media markets, with schools in Milwaukee/Northern Illinois (UW-Parkside), Chicago (Lewis), Indianapolis (Indianapolis), Cincinnati (Northern Kentucky), Louisville (Bellarmine), Evansville (Southern Indiana), Owensboro (Kentucky Wesleyan), and St. Louis (SIU Edwardsville/UM-St. Louis). The conference sponsors 17 championships in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, indoor and outdoor track and field, and tennis for men and basketball, cross country, softball, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and

MEDIA CLIPS – July 24th, 2018 Inbox: Should Rox pursue reliever at Deadline? Beat reporter Thomas Harding answers questions from Colorado fans By Thomas Harding MLB.com @harding_at_mlb Jul. 23rd, 2018 DENVER -- The most likely way the Rockies will pick to keep their surge going is to improve the bullpen by the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline -- or at least that's the way I'm answering the first question in the Edward Jones Beat Reporter's Inbox. Thomas Harding ✔@harding_at_mlb Please tweet me here with your questions for the next @EdwardJones #Rockies Beat Reporter's Inbox. Eric Swanson@Eric_C_Swanson With all the money spent on the bullpen this offseason, yet it still seems to be a need for this team; is there any chance they make a move to acquire a reliever at the deadline? 7:08 AM - Jul 23, 2018 This question is the biggest one that the Rockies are likely to address. In doing so, let's address exactly what the need is. First, I'll determine what's pertinent, and any stat for any reliever that takes into account the season is not. I'm going to look at the Rockies' bullpen starting June 28, the beginning of the club's current 15-4 run. The full bullpen is 7- 2 with a 3.34 ERA over that period, but even that doesn't tell us the exact areas of strength and need. 1 Let's zero in on key individuals, working from the ninth inning to earlier innings (more or less), starting June 28: • Closer Wade Davis: nine innings pitched, 1.00 ERA, .129 batting average against, 11 strikeouts, two walks • Righty Adam Ottavino: 10 2/3 IP, 3.38 ERA, .318 BAA, 14 SO, 5 BB • Righty Scott Oberg: 10 IP, 1.80 ERA, .278 BAA, 10 SO, 1 BB • Righty Bryan Shaw: 4 1/3 IP (since his return from a right calf strain), 2.08 ERA, .188 BAA, 6 SO, 2 BB • Lefty Chris Rusin: 7 1/3 IP, 6.14 ERA, .323 BAA, 4 SO, 3 BB • Lefty Jake McGee: 5 2/3 IP, 6.35 ERA, .273 BA, 6 SO, 3 BB (.905 OPS against) So this gives the Rockies two ways to shore up the back end of the bullpen.

Luther Taylor (1875–1958) pitched in the major leagues for the New York Giants (now the San Francisco Giants) from 1900 through 1908, and he played briefly for the Cleveland Bronchos (now the Cleveland Indians) in 1902.
