Vallejo, CA – On Monday, February 24, SolTrans with Solano Transportation Authority (STA) will break ground on the York Street Improvement Project. The project will expand the Vallejo Transit Center (VTC) east along York Street by adding 5 new bus stops and enhance the downtown streetscape between Sacramento Street and Marin Street. SolTrans welcomes the public to join in celebrating this happy occasion, the event will take place at VTC in the south parking lot along Sacramento Street from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The project is intended to accommodate SolTrans’ expanding Local and SolanoExpress services, as well as, allow for expansion to accommodate additional transit partners. The new amenities will include 5 bus shelters, decorative and ornamental fencing and benches, trees and ornamental shade sails to complement the original transit center. This expansion is funded by a combination of efforts and partnerships with Transportation Commission, California State Transportation Agency, California Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Solano Transportation Authority and the City of Vallejo. Construction begins the week after the groundbreaking, and SolTrans services will detour around York Street. Riders may experience minor delays, but no stops will be missed. Construction is expected to last through the spring. Once the project is completed SolTrans will be working with local artists on an art installation along York Street to tie in with the work artists are already doing in the downtown area. Solano County Transit (SolTrans) has been the public transportation provider for south Solano County since July 2011. SolTrans provides local and SolanoExpress fixed routes, complementary , and subsidized Lyft programs. The agency is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) that is governed by a six-member Board of Directors, composed of two representatives from the cities of Benicia and Vallejo, Solano County’s representative on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), and a representative from the Solano Transportation Authority.
